Iceland Cricket Trolls Gautam Gambhir After India Lose T20I Series Against Ireland

Hours after India suffered a shocking T20I series defeat to Ireland, Iceland Cricket took to X on Monday (June 29) to take a savage dig at India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir.

In a post that quickly went viral on social media, Iceland Cricket sarcastically said they had no plans to appoint Gambhir to their coaching staff, while acknowledging the “remarkable" achievement of leading a star-studded Indian side to a series defeat against Ireland.

“We can confirm that we don’t wish to add Gautam Gambhir to our coaching staff. He clearly has talent, though. To take those Indian players and deliver those results in Ireland takes truly remarkable gifts," Iceland Cricket posted on X.

Three months after successfully defending their T20 World Cup title, India toured Ireland for a two-match T20I series under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer but suffered defeats in both matches.

India lost the series opener in Belfast by 34 runs before Ireland clinched the second T20I by one run in a rain-affected contest on Sunday.

While India’s bowlers delivered commendable performances in both games, the batting unit struggled. Captain Shreyas Iyer and T20 World Cup 2026 Player of the Tournament Sanju Samson were among those who failed to make a significant impact across the series.

After becoming only the second Indian captain to lose his first two T20Is in charge, Iyer will be eager to bounce back in India’s upcoming five-match T20I series against England.

India will travel to England later this week for the five-match series. The opening T20I will be played at the Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street on July 1, followed by the second match at Old Trafford on July 4. The remaining three T20Is are scheduled to be played in Nottingham, Bristol and Southampton on July 7, 9 and 11, respectively.

Vaibhav to make his India debut on July 1?

Fifteen-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was included in India’s squad for the Ireland series but did not get an opportunity to feature in either of the two matches.

However, following India’s back-to-back defeats, calls for the teenage sensation’s inclusion in the playing XI have grown louder. There is now a strong possibility that Vaibhav could make his India debut in the first T20I against England on July 1.
