2026 NFL schedule release: What it means for the Buffalo Bills

0
The Buffalo Bills are about to turn the page to a brand-new chapter in 2026… and it comes with a new stadium, a new head coach, and a fresh new energy. The only thing left pending is the new schedule.

Here’s a look at what we know ahead of the 2026 schedule release.

1. When will the schedule be released?

The NFL hasn’t officially announced the 2026 schedule release date yet, but the pattern is steady.

Recent releases:

2025: Wednesday May 14, at 8:00 p.m.

2024: Wednesday May 15, at 8:00 p.m.

2023: Thursday May 11, at 8:00 p.m.

The expectation is the full 2026 slate to drop in mid-May, complete with a primetime reveal on ESPN and wall-to-wall coverage over several days.

If the target date holds steady we should be hearing of the new schedule next Wednesday or Thursday, May 13th or May 14th.

Don’t be surprised if the NFL decides to make you wait this season. The NFL doesn’t kickoff until Wednesday, September 9th this year…which is a week later than historical starts over the last six years. This could mean fans may need to wait a week longer to get the schedule possibly May 20th or 21st, according to some sources.

2. A historic season: New stadium, new era

2026 won’t be just another season in Buffalo, it will be the inaugural season at the NEW Highmark Stadium.

That means:

First regular-season game in the new building

First primetime moments under the new lights

First chance for Bills Mafia to break in a new home (in the most Bills way possible)

3. Who are the Bills’ 2026 opponents?

We don’t have dates yet, but we do know the lineup and it’s stacked.

Home opponents

Miami Dolphins

New England Patriots

New York Jets

Kansas City Chiefs

Los Angeles Chargers

Chicago Bears

Detroit Lions

Baltimore Ravens

Away opponents

Miami Dolphins

New England Patriots

New York Jets

Denver Broncos

Green Bay Packers

Las Vegas Raiders

Minnesota Vikings

Houston Texans

Los Angeles Rams

Dates, kickoff times, and ticket details will all arrive with the official release this spring.

4. Why do they play those teams?

The NFL schedule formula is part rotation, part performance-based matchmaking.

Here’s how Buffalo’s 2026 slate comes together:

AFC East (6 games): Home and away vs. Dolphins, Patriots, Jets

Rotating divisions:

AFC West

NFC North

Same-place finishers (3 games):

AFC North: second-place finisher

AFC South: second-place finisher

NFC West: second-place finisher

Because Buffalo is consistently near the top of the division, they’re once again drawing a top tier schedule.
