Liverpool involved in transfer deadline day drama as deal 'collapses' after sudden U-turn

Liverpool dismissed Inter Milan's approach to sign Curtis Jones and their decision has had a transfer domino effect

Liverpool have scuppered Nottingham Forest's efforts to sign Davide Farttesi after blocking Curtis Jones' exit, according to reports. The Reds academy graduate was the subject of interest from Italy as Inter Milan looked to sign the 25-year-old.

It has been said that Jones' move to the San Siro was key in allowing Frattesi to make the move to the Premier League with Sean Dyche's side pushing for his signature. The Italy international was reportedly eager to make the move but Inter would only sanction an exit if Liverpool opened the door to Jones, however, the Premier League champions blocked talks progressing, the ECHO has reported.

Jones, who turned 25 on Friday, has less than 18 months remaining on his contract at Anfield and it has been reported, namely by Di Marzio, that Liverpool want to secure an extension before letting the midfielder leave on loan, with the option of a permanent deal.

It has been claimed that the midfielder does not see himself as part of the Dutchman's plans at Anfield and wants to make the switch to Milan. Jones managed six minutes during Saturday's important 4-1 win over Newcastle United, making his return after missing the 6-0 rout over Qarabag due to illness.

Jones shared pleasantries with England teammate Anthony Gordon before heading down the tunnel after the full-time whistle on Saturday. But there was no emotional farewell to the Anfield crowd, it seems.

When asked about a possible departure for Jones, Slot said: "I think there's always lots of talks about Liverpool and lots of talks about the Liverpool players.

"There was a lot of noise around the club the last week, maybe I should say weeks. I think our fans showed today what noise really means, that's being loud because they were so helpful today.

"So that is what what noise here is in Liverpool.

"I think we are trying to strengthen the squad and not trying to weaken it. But yeah, 48 hours or something, I don't know how long to go.

"So let's see where the window ends up."

Fabrizio Romano reported on Sunday that Frattesi will not leave Italy and the deal with Forest was offer after Jones' exit was blocked.

Forest were in the process of finalising a deal with the Italian to sign him on loan with an option to buy.

The 26-year-old has had a sporadic role under Cristian Chivu this season as Inter Milan have an eight-point lead at the top of Serie A.

Frattesi has made just 12 appearances in the league but featured for an hour in their 2-0 win over Cremonese.

Inter president Beppe Marotta said: “As we have always said, we don’t want to hold back any player who wants to go elsewhere.

"Frattesi has never expressed the desire to leave, of course everyone wants more playing time, but he will have the chance during the season to show what he can do."
