"The wicket was really good, but once the ball got rough, it became a little slow and started to turn a bit. Always great challenge playing against Jofra, but we had it in our mind that if an over started well for us, we would go after it. If we use a lot of slower ones, cutters and try to spin the ball, it is not easy to hit (on this pitch). We were going after the bowlers and there was no hesitation. I lost my wicket at the right time for the RR team - we could have had a bigger partnership. (Gill's influence) We share a very good partnership and relationship. I look up to him for a lot of things."

21 runs in the last over!

Tushar Deshpande has finished with figures of 0/52. RR did well to pull things back in the death overs but this one would be a bit of a downer for them. Washington Sundar finishes unbeaten on 30 off 20 balls, Rahul Tewatia on 14 off four. Deshpande started off with a yorker on leg. It ends up going down for a wide. Then Deshpande returns with a full toss on the pads, Tewatia sends it flat over deep square leg for a six. The second ball is sent in back of a length outside off, Tewatia hits it over short fine leg for another six. A single next ball and then Sundar crushes the fourth ball off the back foot down the ground over long off. A wonderful yorker after that with the ball going between Sundar's legs. The batter actually asks for a review for wide there. Obviously, it wasn't a wide and so a complete waste of a review. Which GT are entitled to of course. Single off the last ball.

RR need 230 to win which will, as is usually the case nowadays in the IPL, be a record for highest succesfull run chase on this ground.

Smashed into the hands of extra cover. Holder wasn't really able to get going here and so something had to give. Brijesh digs the first ball of the 19th over outside off, tame slice from Holder and Jaiswal takes the simple catch.

Holder c Jaiswal b Brijesh Sharma 7 (7)

GT 205/4 in 18.1 overs

Oh Gill gets into a tangle trying to scoop the second ball of the 17th from Brijesh. It goes off the toe-end of his bat and the fielder at short fine leg takes a fine catch peddaling back. An exquisite knock from Gill comes to an end rather awkwardly.

Gill c Deshpande b Brijesh Sharma 84 (44)

GT 185/3 in 16.2 overs

RR have brought in Sooryavanshi for Punja. Ferreira bowled the 15th over. His first ball was flighted up outside off, in the slot for Sundar who sends it over extra cover for four. Single next ball and then Ferreira misses the yorker fourth ball, Gill sends it between long on and deep midwicket for four. Two singles after that.

Sundar on nine off six, Gill on 74 off 39 balls.

Shubman Gill was down with some trouble on his lower leg at the end of the ninth over. He would've been run out there as the batters ran a single. Six runs of the 10th over after that by JAdeja and then Punja returns for his third over. Gill runs a single third ball to bring up the mark in 30 balls.

He gets there with a single off the fourth ball of the ninth over by Punja. Sudharsan is on 50 in 30 balls at the end of that over, Gill on 45 off 25. These two batters haven't gone hammers and tongs in this first half of the GT innings and yet, they are going at 12 runs an over, mainly due to just how horrendous RR have been in the powerplay. Thus far, though, Jadeja and Punja have pulled things back somewhat.

GT 108/0 in 9 overs

Spin is in for RR. Yash Raj Punja bowled the first over after powerplay, Ravindra Jadeja bowled the eighth. Gill almost fell second ball of that eighth over. Jadeja tossed it up full outside off. Gill chipped his shot, Jaiswal was at extra cover and he dived to his right, got the ball with his outstretched right hand but couldn't make it stick. Would've been a screamer of a catch had he taken it.

Sudharsan on 44 off 27, Gill on 41 off 22.

The first timeout comes and don't RR need that. Brijesh Sharma bowled the last over of that unmitigated disaster of a powerplay for RR. His first ball was right in the blockhole on middle and leg but Gill was prepared for it. He moved leg side and jammed the bat down, the ball goes past the wicketkeeper for four. Single next ball and then Sudharsan smashes the third through cover for another four. He takes a single after that and then Gill sends the fifth ball past mid off for another four. The over ends with another single.

Gill on 32 off 15, Sudharsan on 39 off 22.

And now Archer has gone for 15 runs in the fifth over. He had been given a little rest after that never-ending first over. Now, the wheels have come off. Archer goes short outside off first ball, Gill gets on top of it and sends it between point and cover for four. Third delivery of the over is full outside off, Gill gracefully sends that over mid off for a six. How about that for a shot! Archer overpitches fifth ball as well, Gill sends it over the bowler's head for a four. A single to end that over.

Gill on 22 off 11, Sudharsan on 34 off 20.

Jofra Archer has run in seven times already this over but has bowled only two legal deliveries! He starts off with a short and wide delivery, Sudharsan sends it over point for a four. His second delivery is called wide outside off, although that really was an unfair call on Archer. Sudharsan then defends the next delivery down. Next delivery, Sudharsan takes a single but Archer has overstepped! Archer bowls the free hit delivery full down leg, wide called. Next delivery is a similar one, wide called again. The third is down the leg side again, 3rd wide in a row.

Shubman Gill: We would have bowled first as well honestly. We have got one change. Prasidh Krishna comes back in place of Manav Suthar. I think it's important to look back at your strengths as a batting group or as a bowling group. What are the things that has got us so much success as a team. So, there were some areas that we went back and we reflected. Most of the games that we have played have been pretty close. So, it's all about doing that extra effort, putting that belief in, and if something is going well for you, having the belief to be able to execute. (Do you have a score in mind when you go out?) Yeah, I mean, we're going to see how the first couple of overs, 2-3 overs go. There's obviously a par score and then you want to get 10-15 extra on top of the par score to give that extra cushion to the bowlers.

Yashasvi Jaiswal: We are going to bowl first. I think the wicket is pretty good and we want to chase it. Riyan pulled his hamstring last game, so I feel he'll be coming back soon. Shimron Hetmyer comes in and Yash Raj Punja comes in. That's the two guys who are coming in. I'm really excited, looking forward to the game.

Murali Kartik and Simon Katich did the pitch report today - or 'Kat & Kat' as Kartik put it, for reasons only known to him. It is pitch number 6 today at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium. There is a constant breeze and it is going to continue throughout the evening. All blowing towards the pavilion side. Plenty of runs on offer today. It could be even coverage of grass, rock hard. There's been plenty of runs here in the last year and a half since IPL 2025. Average first inning score is 205. However, I think both teams tonight, whoever wins the toss, will want to chase. Both teams love to chase.

These two sides played out quite the thriller the last time they met, which was just over a month ago on April 4. Dhruv Jurel's 75 in 42 balls took RR to a score of 210/6. However, it was anything but a walk in the park for them after that. Ravi Bishnoi took 4/41 and it looked like the game was done and dusted by the time he was done with his spell. However, then came a stunning late charge by Rashid Khan and Kagiso Rabada. The pair put up a stand of 43 in 30 balls but in the end, somehow, GT held on.

This is how things stand at the moment in the IPL this year. If they win today, GT would've got four back to back victories in a row for themselves and will propel them right up to second, level on ponts with SRH. It could be even better than that, of course, if they manage a big win today.

That is what former Australia captain Michael Clarke feels. “Well, I haven’t seen this before. I haven’t seen a 15-year-old doing this," he said on Beyond23 Cricket Podcast. “You know, I think back, and again, you can’t compare. Two very different players. But I remember Sachin Tendulkar coming to Australia as a 17-year-old and, mate, that hype was real. I think he was 16. Was 16. And that hype was earned. That legacy is there for everyone to see,” the 45-year-old said. READ MORE.

RR's bowling numbers have taken a bit of a hit off late, although the reasons for that may be far more complex than just being that they got worse at bowling and fielding. They had the best average, strike-rate and economy rate in the tournament after their first four games. Since then, they have gone at nearly 10 runs per over while averaging 35.96 per wicket, with those numbers placing them in the bottom half of the bowling charts.
