India's ODI and Test captain Shubman Gill encountered an unexpected situation in Adelaide when a fan, after shaking hands with him, shouted "Pakistan Zindabad" during his walk through the city streets ahead of Thursday's crucial second ODI against Australia. The video clip of the encounter has since gone viral across various social media platforms. In another angle of the video, the fan can be seen prodding his accomplice to ready the camera to capture the exchange. The angle makes it clear that the interaction was pre-meditated by the fan. The incident comes as Gill leads the Indian team in an important phase of their Australian tour, with India trailing 0-1 in the three-match ODI series after losing the first match in Perth by 7 wickets on October 19. Gill's recent performances against Pakistan in the Asia Cup last month saw him score 10, 47, and 12 runs in three matches. Despite his modest individual scores, India emerged victorious in all three encounters against the Salman Ali Agha-led Pakistani side. The upcoming second ODI at Adelaide Oval holds particular significance for Team India as they aim to level the series. Gill's personal performance in the first ODI was limited to 10 runs from 18 balls, creating additional pressure for improvement in the crucial match. He scored only 9 runs in the second contest, before falling to Xavier Bartlett.
