Gor Mahia FC are one step away from adding another CECAFA Kagame Cup title to their collection after advancing to the 2026 final with a nervy penalty shootout victory over Sudanese giants Al Hilal SC on Tuesday.

The two semi-finals were played at the Kigali Pele Stadium in Rwanda, with Gor Mahia's opponents in the final set to be Rayon Sport FC, who eliminated Jamus SC of South Sudan in the other last-four clash.

How Gor Mahia reached the final

K'Ogalo made a promising start when Steven Ebuela put the ball into his own net in the 34th minute to hand the Kenyan Premier League champions the lead. Al Hilal, however, refused to fold, and levelled matters ten minutes later through Ansumana Samura.

The second half produced plenty of attacking intent from both sides, but neither goalkeeper was beaten despite several clear-cut opportunities. Gor Mahia's task grew harder when Jackson Dwang was dismissed after picking up a second yellow card, leaving the Kenyan side to see out the remainder of the match a man short.

Extra time brought another thirty minutes of football without a breakthrough, sending the tie to penalties. It was there that Harambee Stars custodian Bryne Odhiambo stepped up as the standout performer, helping Gor Mahia triumph 8-7 in the shootout to seal their place in the final.

CECAFA Kagame Cup prize money

The showpiece match is scheduled for Friday at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali, where Gor Mahia will face Rayon Sport FC with the regional title on the line.

Beyond the trophy, there is significant prize money to play for. The winning side will receive US$30,000, equivalent to approximately KSh 3.9 million, while the runners-up will collect US$20,000, roughly KSh 2.6 million. The team that finishes third in the tournament will earn US$10,000, around KSh 1.3 million.
