Report: Chelsea and Man City vying for same manager, Liam Rosenior’s job not entirely safe

Chelsea are keeping a close eye on Cesc Fabregas as they assess potential replacements for Liam Rosenior according to reports.

Rosenior replaced Enzo Maresca in January and signed a six and a half year contract at Stamford Bridge, although there’s understood to be a break clause in the deal.

The 41-year-old made a good start to his Chelsea tenure, but has come under mounting pressure following a poor run of form.

Chelsea keeping close eye on Cesc Fabregas

Saturday’s 3-0 defeat to Everton was their fourth in a row in all competitions, and the third game in a row in which they’ve failed to score.

Chelsea still appear to be backing Rosenior, but failure to secure Champions League football could see a change in stance.

Craig Burley has accused Rosenior of already losing the dressing room, and TEAMtalk have reported the Blues are keeping a close eye on Fabregas, but face competition from Manchester City.

The report adds Fabregas is seen as an attractive option due to his understanding of the club’s culture, and his reputation as one of the most exciting managers in Europe.

Fabregas is currently doing a superb job at Como, who currently sit fourth in Serie A, three points ahead of Juventus and on course for Champions League football.

Liam Rosenior faces critical end of season

The international break has arguably come at a good time, and can act as a mini reset for the Blues before the final run to the end of the season.

Chelsea’s first game after the international break is an FA Cup quarter final against League One side Port Vale, before league games at home against Manchester City and Manchester United.

If Chelsea want to secure Champions League football, you’d imagine a minimum of four points would be required from these two games.

Failure to win either could see Chelsea drop further down the table, with Brentford and Everton only two points behind in seventh and eighth.
