Mark Coles appointed head coach of Zimbabwe Women

Mark Coles has been named the new head coach of the Zimbabwean women’s national side, with Zimbabwe Cricket confirming the appointment on Monday, September 7 after a “rigorous recruitment process.” The upcoming five-match T20I series against South Africa, which will mark the first ever international series between the two sides, is expected to be the New Zealander’s first at the helm of the team.

Coles has previously served as head coach of the women’s teams of Pakistan and Scotland and has assisted the Scottish men’s side too. In addition, he has served as high performance manager at Cricket Papua New Guinea, besides taking up coaching consultancy roles in Australia.

“Mark Coles brings extensive international coaching and high-performance experience, as well as a strong understanding of the demands of the women’s game,” ZC Chairman Tavengwa Mukuhlani said. “Together with the technical and support staff appointed across our senior and Under-19 structures, we believe he will help us build a competitive team and establish a clear pathway for sustained success.

“We are confident that this group will help Zimbabwe women’s cricket continue to grow and compete strongly on the international stage.”

Rangarirai Manyande and Trevor Phiri will serve under Coles as Assistant Coach (Batting) and Fielding Coach respectively. Zimbabwe will face South Africa in the first T20I on Friday, September 11, with each of the five games to be played at Bulawayo’s Queens Sports Club.
