Peter Crouch became Farnham Town’s mascot after losing his fantasy league, delighting fans with a comic walkout and selfies during their 2-2 draw with Sholing.

Former England striker Peter Crouch has taken on many roles in football—prolific Premier League forward, cult hero, podcaster, and TV pundit. But this weekend, the 44-year-old added an unlikely title to the list: matchday mascot.

The unusual role came as a forfeit after Crouch finished bottom of his fantasy football league. His co-hosts on That Peter Crouch Podcast—radio presenter Chris Stark and ex-pro Steve Sidwell—decided the penalty should be a “full mascot experience."

That meant walking out hand-in-hand with a Farnham Town player for their Southern League Premier Division South clash against Sholing.

A Comic Walkout

While the children mascots barely reached the players’ waists, the 6ft 7in forward towered over everyone, turning the traditional pre-match walkout into a comedy show that perfectly matched his self-deprecating personality.

On X, Crouch wrote: “Having the best day at Farnham Town today as mascot."

He even lined up for a group photo with the other mascots, making him—without question—the world’s tallest mascot.

The game ended 2-2, but the buzz was all about Crouch. Fans flocked to him for autographs and selfies. Ever obliging, he posed for pictures, signed shirts, and shared laughs with supporters.

One of English football’s most distinctive figures, Crouch represented clubs including Liverpool, Tottenham, Aston Villa, and Stoke. He scored 106 Premier League goals and remains England’s tallest ever international, earning 42 caps and netting 22 goals, including appearances at the 2006 and 2010 World Cups.

For a man who earned 42 England caps and scored 106 Premier League goals, it was a role reversal few could have imagined.
