“'Serena, you need to show up.'”That was the message from Venus Williams to Serena Williams, as the USA tennis legend reached the women’s doubles quarter-finals at the 2025 US Open. The 45-year-old, who teamed up with Canada's Leylah Fernandez for the doubles event, has played five matches at this year’s tournament across singles and doubles. She has thrived alongside the 2021 US Open finalist, notching three straight wins and counting.Nonetheless, Venus’ sister and fellow four-time Olympic gold medallist Serena is feeling the envy of not being able to pair up with her sister. She may not be on the court, but the pressure is now on to be there to support her older sister.“I think she had a very funny TikTok, but really she's so happy for Leylah and I, and she's given us advice," said Venus in her on-court interview. "We just need her in the box. So, my message is, 'Serena, you need to show up.'"Venus and Serena won Olympic doubles gold three times in their career, also claiming the US Open title on two occasions in 1999 and 2009. While the latter played her last professional match at this tournament in 2022, two-time winner Venus is playing at Flushing Meadows for the 25th time in her illustrious career.
