Roger Federer's Divisive US Open Rolex Watch Now Sells for Three Times Its Original Price

Roger Federer and Rolex go way back. He's an ambassador for the Swiss titan, has worn their watches during some of the greatest moments in his career, and has one of the most impressive collections out there – and for his arrival at the US Open this week, the retired tennis star opted for something a curveball (wrong sports pun, we know).

Namely, Federer sported a limited edition Rolex Oyster Perpetual 41 in Oystersteel with the special multicoloured Jubilee motif dial (with Rolex written in muliticoloured font all over the dial) that was made for the 100th anniversary of the Oyster case. The Jubilee motif itself was first introduced in the late 1970s, but doesn't appear in a whole lot of models, making this a pretty rare piece.

The numbers prove it, too: the watch officially retails for £5,900 from Rolex directly, but is already reselling on the second-hand market through sites like Chrono24 for nearly four times the price (one listing for the watch in a like new condition is ). The steel case and bracelet Rolex watches are always more in-demand (likely because they come at a "more accessible" price point than their gold or platinum equivalents), so they can often become quite difficult to find at retail, even if you can afford one.
