ENGW vs NZW Match Prediction & Analysis

New Zealand Women kicked off their tour of England with a 1-wicket loss in the opening match of the ODI series. The Whiteferns are coming into this series on the back of two series wins at home against South Africa and Zimbabwe.

Amelia Kerr-led New Zealand were quite impressive with the ball while defending such a low total at the Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street. As the series moves to Northampton, a low-scoring venue, England Women will make sure their tactics are right.

What looked like a small total when England began their run chase soon turned into a massive target as they lost regular wickets. They will need their top 5 batters to adopt a more cautious approach to strike partnerships that will set England up for a competitive score.

Emma Lamb and Heather Knight are the key players in the top order for the home team, while skipper Amelia Kerr and Maddy Green are the in-form players to watch in the visitors’ middle-order.

TEAMS PREVIEW

England Women Preview

England Women’s last ODI series at home was in July 2025, when they lost 2-1 to India Women. In the 3rd and the decider ODI, the hosts were bowled out for 305 runs, while chasing a 314-run total at the Riverside Ground.

Some of the key players from that series are missing in this squad for the NZ tour of England. Nat Sciver-Brunt, who was the captain of the side for the India series, along with Sophia Dunkley and opening batter Tammy Beaumont, are not part of the current England Women’s squad.

Nevertheless, they still have Amy Jones, Emma Lamb, and Heather Knight in the batting department while retaining most of their key bowlers from that series, like Sophie Ecclestone, Lauren Filer, and Lauren Bell.

In that home series against India, there wasn’t a single England bowler with an average of under 30. Charlotte Dean, who is the captain of the side in this NZ series, was the top wicket-taker for England, with 4 wickets from 3 matches at an average of 38.

Maia Bouchier was the top batter in the last game with 59 off 69 balls at number 4, while skipper Dean and the 21-year-old bowling all-rounder Freya Kemp were the only other batters to score 30 or more.

Maia Bouchier and Emma Lamb will be high in the running to be the top batter for England in the second ODI, and 4rabet offers 2.60 odds for each of these batters. Filer and Bell will be leading the pace attack for England Women. The captain was also exceptional in the last game, picking up 2 for 21 in her 7 Overs, and will be one to watch out for.

Interesting Stats

Emma Lamb scored 107 runs in two innings in the last one-day international series at home

Left-arm orthodox Linsey Smith averages 19.09 in 12 ODIs with 22 wickets to her name

England Women Predicted Playing XI:

Emma Lamb, Jodi Grewcock, Heather Knight, Maia Bouchier, Freya Kemp, Amy Jones (wk), Danielle Gibson, Charlotte Dean (c), Lauren Filer, Lauren Bell, Linsey Smith

New Zealand Women Preview

Amelia Kerr has many positives to take from her team’s recent loss. The bowlers picked up 9 wickets while defending a 210-run total. A 68-run partnership for the 4th wicket between Maia Bouchier and Freya Kemp put England back on track in the run chase, taking the team from 42 for 3 to 110 for 3.

However, New Zealand Women made a strong comeback, and after Freya Kemp was run out, Rosemary Mair and Amelia Kerr delivered regular breakthroughs to reduce the opposition to 160 for 7. New Zealand were always in the game until the end, when they had England 9 for 201 runs.

As they come to the County Ground in Northampton, a bowling-friendly pitch awaits Kerr and Mair, the stars of the last game. Jess Kerr is another key wicket-taker in this bowling attack to watch out for. Bowling all-rounder Nensi Patel was very economical in her spell, though she picked only one wicket.

Amelia Kerr is the favourite to be the top bowler for NZ at 4rabet with 1.95 odds. The 25-year-old bowling allrounder has played 91 one-day internationals and picked up 128 wickets at an average of 27.54. She is a match-winning bowler and will have all eyes on her in this game.

Suzie Bates and Georgia Plimmer form a strong opening duo. Bates has plenty of experience, having scored almost 6000 runs across 182 ODIs. Maddy Green is a reliable middle-order batter at number 4 and was the top run-scorer for NZ Women in the last match. There is depth in the batting order with Isabella Gaze and Izzy Sharp in the lower middle order.

Interesting Stats

Maddy Green has scored two 80+ runs knocks and one hundred in her last 5 innings for NZ

Rosemary Mair has picked up 10 wickets in her last 5 matches

New Zealand Women Predicted Playing XI:

Suzie Bates, Georgia Plimmer, Amelia Kerr (c), Maddy Green, Brooke Halliday, Isabella Gaze (wk), Izzy Sharp, Jess Kerr, Nensi Patel, Rosemary Mair, Bree Illing

PITCH AND WEATHER CONDITIONS

Weather Conditions

It will be cloudy throughout the day in Northampton with light rain around the time of the match, followed by a chance of showers in the afternoon. The weather forecast doesn’t look promising for a complete game, and we are likely to lose a few overs from both innings. However, we don’t expect the game to be abandoned due to rain.

ENGW vs NZW Pitch Report
