Verdict:

TRUE

Three men sustained minor injuries following a fight involving a group of men at a cafe in Bandar Sunway early on Wednesday (July 8) morning.

A video had earlier gone viral on social media showing a group of men fighting at the cafe after the Argentina versus Egypt match in the round of 16 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Subang Jaya OCPD Assistant Commissioner Wan Azlan Wan Mamat said police received a report on the incident at about 6.16am.

"Initial investigations found that the altercation is believed to have stemmed from a misunderstanding between the victims and a group of men who were at the location before the fight broke out.

"As a result of the incident, three victims suffered minor injuries and sought treatment at a hospital," he said in a statement.

He said the scene had been inspected while police had also recorded statements from witnesses and obtained closed-circuit television footage capturing the incident.

"Efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest those involved," he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting while armed with a weapon or any object used as a weapon.

Wan Azlan advised the public to remain tolerant, control their emotions and avoid any actions that could lead to fights or disturb public order.

"We urge the public not to speculate or spread unverified information about the incident to avoid confusion and to ensure investigations are not affected," he added.

Those with information on the case are urged to contact the Bandar Sunway police station at 03-5621 2222 or the Subang Jaya district police headquarters at 03-7862 7222.
