Georgia's fifth decommitment of the 2027 recruiting cycle is a tough blow to the class, as Long Beach Poly (Calif.) five-star cornerback Donte Wright is no longer pledged to the Bulldogs. The 6-foot-1, 170-pound prospect announced on Saturday afternoon, via his personal social media accounts, that he had flipped to Miami. He originally chose Georgia over 19 other offers last summer, but schools like Oregon, Miami, UCLA, and Michigan continued to recruit the five-star, with Wright scheduling official visits to all five programs. Now, the Hurricanes have added Wright to the fold.

"After a lot of Prayer, Thought & talks with my Family. I would like to announce I will be committing to the University of Miami," Wright said, via his X.com account.

The loss of Wright leaves Georgia with six commitments in the 2027 class. That group comes in at No. 38 in the 247Sports Team Class Rankings. Wright initially felt that Athens was the place to be when he committed last summer.

"It was just the love that they showed me when I got to the facility. I just felt like I was at home," Wright told Dawgs247's Ben Wolk at the time of his commitment. "It was also me working out in front of them, seeing how they coached me if I was there already, and that really stood out to me."

In seven games as a junior, Wright made 25 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, seven pass breakups, two sacks, and one forced fumble. In eight games as a sophomore, he totaled 23 tackles, 2 for loss, picked off one pass, and had five pass breakups. As a sophomore, Wright posted a 10.69 (1.7) in the 100 and 21.80 (0.3) in the 200 in track.

Wright is ranked as the nation's No. 10 overall prospect, No. 2 cornerback, and No. 1 recruit in California by 247Sports. The industry-generated 247Sports Composite ranks Wright as the No. 9 overall prospect in the country, the nation's No. 2 cornerback, and the No. 1 overall recruit in California. Below is the 247Sports Scouting Report for Wright from Jan. 17.

"-Coverage ace that could be a difference-maker for any Power Four defense with his speed, twitch and physicality.

-Measured just over 6 feet the summer of junior year and tested exceptionally well following an impressive spring semester on the track.

-Stays on top of routes with elite footwork.

-Explodes out of breaks.

-Smooth in his turns and is quick to find top gear.

-Not a ton of takeaways on the prep resume thus far, but can find the football and swat passes in the deeper third.

-Spirited as an open-field tackler and will lower the shoulder pads to unload force.

-Looked the part at annual Battle Miami tournament as he showcased sound technique and went stride for stride with various blue-chip wide receivers.

-Should be viewed at this stage as one of the top outside cornerbacks in the 2027 cycle."
