Player Liverpool released in 2024 now joins giants in record move

Liverpool are a club many would consider to be the pinnacle of football for those wanting to play in England.

It can therefore be difficult for players to pick themselves back up after leaving Anfield, with the likes of Sadio Mane, Jordan Henderson, Roberto Firmino and Georginio Wijnaldum all fading away from the spotlight since their respective departures.

However, Anderson Arroyo has quickly taken his career to new heights after being released by Liverpool in July 2024.

Anderson Arroyo joins Rubin Kazan in record sale for Burgos

Liverpool let the Colombian leave for Burgos on a free transfer in the summer of 2024 – after he had spent six months on loan with the Spanish side.

Just over 12 months later – however – Arroyo has now sealed a €1m (£865,430) move to Russian giants Rubin Kazan, which represents a record sale for Burgos.

Previously, the €500,000 (£432,742) sale of David Goldar to Pafos held that title.

Arroyo – who is arguably entering his prime at the age of 25 – now has a fantastic chance to make a name for himself in football, playing for a renowned side who can boast two Russian Premier League titles.

When releasing the Colombia U23 international in July 2024, Liverpool posted a statement which read: “The Colombian departs the Reds six-and-a-half years after arriving from Fortaleza CEIF in his home country.

“Arroyo spent the majority of his time with the club out on loan, at Real Mallorca, KAA Gent, FK Mlada Boleslav, Salamanca CF UDS, Mirandes, Alaves, FC Andorra and Burgos.

“He now embarks on a new chapter in his career with a permanent switch to Spanish side Burgos, who play in the Segunda Division. Everyone at LFC wishes Anderson the best of luck for the future.”

Arroyo never made a senior appearance for Liverpool throughout his entire time on Merseyside.

Liverpool deserve credit for helping Anderson Arroyo

It would have been very easy for Liverpool to wash their hands of the South American years ago.

Arroyo – who Strasbourg wanted in 2019 – embarked on eight separate loan spells throughout his six-and-a-half years with Liverpool, never doing enough to earn a permanent move to any of those clubs aside from Burgos.

However, the Reds stuck with the right-back, even offering him a contract extension in July 2022 despite the fact there was little chance of him making it at Anfield, especially with Trent Alexander-Arnold in his position at the time.

It will therefore be pleasing for many at Anfield to see Arroyo seal a record move to Rubin Kazan, a deal which reflects well on Liverpool and highlights how the Reds look out for their players.
