Alexis Ohanian Shares 1 Sweet Rule He And Serena Williams Have For Their Daughters

Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian shared how he and his wife, tennis icon Serena Williams approach their kids' aspirations in life.

Ohanian — who spoke to reporters Sept. 18 at the international debut of his all-women track and field league, Athlos, in London — told USA Sports that the couple just has one rule when it comes to the future careers of young daughters Olympia, 9, and Adira, 3.

"The one rule in the house is we don't care what you want to do when you grow up, as long as you do your best at it and you're doing something useful," Ohanian, 43, told the outlet.

Ohanian attended the event with Williams, 44, along with their two children in a rare family appearance all together. The meet also included Olympic gold medalist sprinters Sha'Carri Richardson and Gabby Thomas, who are also two of the league's athlete-owner advisors.

Ohanian explained to USA Sports that that day, Williams was tasked with monitoring their youngest, Adira. Meanwhile, Olympia was out, interviewing the star athletes.

Ohanian explained to the outlet that while Olympia was comfortable chatting it up with the athletes, she's not firm on becoming a journalist.

"She hasn't mentioned journalist yet," Ohanian told the outlet. Right now, fashion designer is the number one career path that she's circling around."

He joked to the outlet's journalist that their job is "safe for now, but watch out."

"She's coming for journalism," he said. "She's gonna go be great."

Ohanian and Williams welcomed Olympia in September 2017 while Adira was born in August 2023. They've previously spoken about honoring their kids' own passions.

In a January interview with TODAY hosts Jenna Bush Hager and Sheinelle Jones, Williams shared that her children are in different sports that align with their personalities. Olympia, for example, is more interested in golf because she doesn't like to run, Williams said, laughing. Adira may end up being the tennis player in the family, she added.
