Star India wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik has slammed Karun Nair for another early dismissal in the England series, calling it ordinary and wondering what the latter was thinking to get dismissed in that manner off the bowling of Brydon Carse, even as he was trying to get set on the crease.

Karun hasn’t been able to set the stage on fire, and his dismissal in the second innings of the Lord’s Test against England raised many eyebrows.

Nair, 33, was looking to set himself up, but out of nowhere, he decided to leave a straight ball and was hit right on the pads off the bowling of Carse.

The incident happened on the third delivery of the 13th over, when Nair made an error in judgment.

“Karun Nair’s going to limp off, what a breakthrough for England. Completely out of the blue, he was looking solid as always. The ball didn’t do much, just came in straight. I don’t know what he was thinking," Karthik said while commentating.

“Karun Nair expected the ball to swing away probably, but it didn’t, just held its line, kept coming straight. Pretty ordinary leave, Brydon Carse loving it, it’s an important wicket," Karthik added.

Nair came back into the Test team after strong domestic cricket performances. He played the Headingley Test for India, batting at No. 6, as Sai Sudharsan played at No. 3. But once the latter was dropped in the second Test, he was moved to No. 3.

“It’s a very strange leave from Karun Nair. Particularly at the end he’s batting, the end Carse is coming in from is the pavilion end, so you know naturally the ball is going to run back in at you, down the slope," former England cricketer Michael Atherton said.

“To make matters worse, he’ll (Nair) have a big bruise there in the morning because it hit him on the inside of the pad, so he had to hobble off," Atherton added.

During an interaction with the official broadcasters after the close of play on Day 4, former India cricketer Anil Kumble did not hesitate to call out Nair’s brain fade.

“India had a great chance; they did well to restrict England to 192. Yashasvi Jaiswal played a poor shot. Once Karun Nair got out, and then Shubman Gill, it was a slight advantage to England," Kumble said while speaking on JioStar.

“It was a great opportunity for Karun; he did all the hard work. He did look good, I don’t know, probably it was a brain fade," Kumble added.

Meanwhile, Washington Sundar put India in the best possible position to win the Lord’s Test with a four-wicket haul before batters stuttered to 58/4 at stumps on the fourth day, chasing 193 on a deteriorating track.
