Amorim has an opportunity to make history if Milan beat Juventus

Milan are gearing up for their first real test of the Serie A season away against Juventus on Sunday evening, and if recently-appointed head coach Ruben Amorim picks up all three points on the road, he will become the first Rossoneri coach since 1958 to win their first three league matches in charge.

Amorim could better Sacchi, Capello and Ancelotti's Milan starts with a win against Juventus

So far, so good for Amorim and Milan at the start of the 2026-27 season: They have picked up six points from their first two Serie A fixtures of the season thanks to their 2-1 victory away against Torino and last weekend's 2-0 win over Venezia in San Siro.

Amorim now needs a victory over Juventus to become the first coach since 1958 to win their first three Serie A matches in charge of Milan. This is a feat that not even Arrigo Sacchi, Fabio Capello or Carlo Ancelotti managed during their trophy-laden spells in San Siro.

Sacchi lost the second Serie A match of his tenure, defeated by Fiorentina due to goals from Ramon Diaz and the legendary Roberto Baggio. Capello won both of his first two matches in charge back in 1991, but then drew 1-1 in his third match, coincidentally away against Juventus. Ancelotti, meanwhile, was held to a 0-0 draw against Piacenza during his first Serie A match in charge of Milan in 2001.

Only three coaches have won all of their first three matches in charge of Milan, and none for almost 70 years, dating back to 1958. Mario Sperone managed it in 1952, Gipo Viani did it in 1956 and the most recent was Cina Bonizzoni 68 years ago.
