Mirra Andreeva left surprised by the crowd during her first win at the Singapore Open

Mirra Andreeva has made it safely through to the quarter-finals of the Singapore Open.

Andreeva suffered heartbreak against Coco Gauff at the US Open, as she failed to take two match points in her quarter-final match against the American.

The 19-year-old had not played since then, before Andreeva returned to the match court as the top seed in Singapore.

After Andreeva beat Aliaksandra Sasnovich 6-2, 6-2 she admitted she was a little surprised by the crowd in Singapore.

Mirra Andreeva thought she would receive more support than her opponent in Singapore

Andreeva spoke to media after her win over Sasnovich, where she was asked about the crowd in Singapore after winning her debut match at the tournament.

While she was full of praise for how the crowd supported her, Andreeva admitted she was surprised that they appeared to be cheering for her opponent just as much as they were for her.

"I felt like the support that I received today was incredible," Andreeva said, as shown by Tennis Asia TV. "I felt like everyone was so excited to see me.

"And I felt like they also had the same amount of support to my opponent and I was like, 'Okay.' To be honest I was expecting maybe that they would be a little bit more on my side, but I felt that they were just so happy to see players play and they I guess were so excited to have players play and watch them live.

"So, I was just happy with the way that people were supporting us today. You know, the support meant a lot for me today and I hope that people can bring the same energy to the next match that I play."

Who is Mirra Andreeva playing next at the Singapore Open?

Andreeva is now into the quarter-finals in Singapore, and she will now continue her bid for the title against former US Open finalist Leylah Fernandez.

This will be a fifth meeting between Andreeva and Fernandez, with their head-to-head currently level at two wins apiece.

Two of these matches have taken place this year, with Andreeva and Fernandez both winning one each.

Fernandez has the bragging rights on hard courts, having won both of their two previous matches on the surface, including their most recent meeting at the Canadian Open last month.
