Newcastle United in talks to sign Arsenal player as Bruno Guimaraes deal agreed

After Sandro Tonali, Anthony Gordon and Eddie Howe, Newcastle United are now set to lose their club captain this summer as well. Arsenal have agreed a deal in principle, thought to be around €90 million, for the transfer of Bruno Guimaraes.

That means that Newcastle United will look completely different this season, with very little similarity with the Howe era that produced two Champions League runs and a League Cup triumph that ended a 70-year wait for domestic silverware.

The Magpies simply have far too much this summer to be a better squad heading into next season. Players like Bazoumana Toure, Sean Steur, Ewen Jaouen and Aladji Bamba have been signed. A move for Lukas Hornicek is believed to be close as well.

Yet, all things considered, this is not a better team. And let’s not forget that the Magpies only managed to finish 12th in the Premier League last season. So, they need to do a lot more work this summer. Could that involve signing a player from Arsenal in return?

Arsenal are the reigning Premier League champions. But they might lose a few familiar faces this summer, with one of them on the radar of none other than Newcastle United.

According to reports confirmed by Caught Offside (via Football FanCast), Gabriel Martinelli could leave Arsenal this summer. Newcastle United have registered their interest in the player alongside Manchester United and Bayern Munich.

The Premier League want around £50 million. Talks are underway, though it’s unclear if they are advanced. The Brazil international seems keen to move on.

At this point in time, it is hard to imagine that many teams would be lining up to pay £50 million to sign Martinelli from Arsenal to be very honest.

Would Martinelli be a good signing for Newcastle?

Once upon a time, he was considered one of the brightest talents at Arsenal. But those days seem to be long gone. He has lost his importance to the team over the years and time has come to move on, if he wants to resurrect his career elsewhere.

Newcastle United would be a good place to do that. Martinelli would bring some much-needed experience and proven quality to the squad.

At the same time, he would be expected to have a prominent role in the team as well. And who knows, that might allow him to thrive.

Also, let us not forget the 45-day transfer rule. So, any move to Newcastle United would most probably be a loan with an option or obligation to sign.
