Rickelton scores unbeaten 113 for Lions ahead of Australia series

In Johannesburg, South Africa, cricketer Ryan Rickelton scored an unbeaten 113 runs for DP World Lions in a first-class match against Boland at Wanderers. It was his 19th century in first-class cricket. As TimesLIVE reports, Lions held a lead of 166 runs when play was stopped due to bad light.

Rickelton and Makhwetu partnership

In the Lions' second innings, the team lost five players for 118 runs, but Rickelton remained at the crease. Together with former South Africa U19 captain Wandile Makhwetu, he added 82 runs to the team's total. In the first innings, Rickelton scored 49 runs.

Boland took a 34-run lead in the first innings. On Friday, 18-year-old Lions debutant JJ Besson reduced the opponents to 90/6 and finished the innings with figures of 7/62. At the same time, Lehan Botha scored a career-best 170 runs, including 20 fours and five sixes.

Squad selection ahead of Australia

Rickelton's century was an important result ahead of South Africa's Test series against Australia, scheduled for next month. According to TimesLIVE, Rickelton and Aiden Markram are likely to remain the opening batters, while captain Temba Bavuma is also expected to have a place in the squad.

Coach Shukri Conrad and selector Patrick Moroney still have to decide on the number three batter and the middle order ahead of the first Test at Kingsmead in Durban. During Conrad's tenure, Wiaan Mulder, Tristan Stubbs, Rickelton and Tony de Zorzi have batted at number three. Mulder was due to play for Lions against Boland but withdrew from the match for family reasons.
