Elina Svitolina commented on her loss in the Billie Jean King Cup

Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina commented on her loss to Belgian player Gret Minnen in the quarterfinals of the Billie Jean King Cup. After the match, the captain of the Ukrainian national team spoke with members of the press.

Svitolina lost to Minnen in three sets. In the first set, the Ukrainian managed to win in a tiebreak, but the Belgian player prevailed in the next two sets.

According to Elina Svitolina, the match was a tough one, and Gret Minnen demonstrated a high level of play throughout the entire match.

“Yes, it was a tough match today. I think, overall, I played pretty well. She played incredibly today—from the very beginning to the very end of the match. So, all in all, it wasn’t a bad match at all.

It’s just that, of course, I’m very disappointed with the result and my performance, because I think I could have played a little better. But that’s just how it turned out today,” Svitolina said.

The Ukrainian tennis player also noted the special atmosphere of matches as part of the national team and her opponent’s high level of play.

Svitolina noted that during the match, both players made adjustments to their games. According to the Ukrainian, some of the changes worked, but Minnen was also able to adapt to the situation on the court.

“We made a few changes during the match. Some worked, some didn’t. But she’s a good player too, so she also changed a few things in her game.

To be honest, she really played incredibly well today. It was a very high-quality match. It all came down to just a few points here and there. I don’t think I played that badly,” the Ukrainian concluded.

The doubles match proved decisive in the quarterfinal clash between Ukraine and Belgium. Angelina Kalinina and Lyudmyla Kichenok defeated their Belgian opponents in two sets.

Thus, the Ukrainian national team advanced to the semifinals of the Billie Jean King Cup.

In the next round of the tournament, the “blue-and-yellows” will face the winners of the match between the Chinese and Italian national teams.
