What Amad did at full-time vs Liverpool has given Michael Carrick confidence he will rediscover his form

Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick has thrown his support behind Amad.

Amad is still the last Manchester United player to score a hat-trick, scoring his first ever treble at home to Southampton last season.

The goals have been far tougher to come by this season. Amad’s last goal came in the 4-4 draw against Bournemouth in December, when Ruben Amorim was still in charge. He has scored only twice in 2025/26.

In the recent win over Liverpool, Amad came under scrutiny after giving the ball away leading to United conceding a goal.

Michael Carrick says he is not worried about the Ivory Coast international.

Carrick on Amad

Speaking at his press conference, Michael Carrick was asked about Amad’s current form and mindset.

Carrick says that Amad’s mindset at full-time against Liverpool gave him total reassurance.

He said: “Amad’s fine. He’s absolutely fine. He’s no problem. He was smiling at full-time. Mistakes were part of football. I’ve made them. I’ve made plenty as a player, I understand, and sometimes you make them and it leads to a goal. Sometimes you make them and you get away with it and no one really talks about it.

“He’s done so many good things since I came back and the impact that he’s had on the team, his performance is what he gives the team.

“With the ball, without the ball, his energy, his attitude towards it and he’s been great over the last few days and he was great after the game and so he should be.

“He’s got nothing to feel down about or upset about or frustrated about because he’s got so much to look forward to and he’s so talented and so exciting and an absolute joy to work with.”

Amad to be involved vs Sunderland

Amad will be involved when Manchester United face Sunderland, the club where he previously spent a season on loan.

Carrick said: “He’s in a good place, he’s in a good place and I’m sure he’s looking forward to the game on Saturday.”

Perhaps if United had failed to win against Liverpool, he would have had more time to dwell on the mistake.

If Carrick had seen Amad looking upset after the win, he might have been worried, but clearly that was not the case.

Amad gave an interview this week where he praised United’s coaching staff, and talked about wanting to help Bruno Fernandes to break the assist record.
