Chelsea given shock Man Utd transfer boost as JJ Gabriel 'picks' Stamford Bridge move

JJ Gabriel's request to depart Manchester United shocked the football world and one report has claimed he could move to London

Chelsea would be JJ Gabriel's preferred Premier League club if the 15-year-old decides to leave Manchester United. News that he wants to be de-registered from the Red Devils staggered the football world this week.

He is already being linked with some of the biggest clubs in world football. The teenage prodigy recently flew to Barcelona and has also been linked with Real Madrid. A move abroad is purported to be the most likely scenario.

However, if he does decide to remain in England, it's been claimed Chelsea are the most tempting club for him and his representatives, despite the fact they cannot register any new academy players until January 2027, as a result of the transfer ban they were hit with in March.

TEAMtalk have reported that of all the English clubs to approach him, the Blues put forward the most compelling case. Gabriel is yet to put pen to paper on a scholarship agreement with United.

Young players are prohibited from signing a scholarship agreement until they reach the age of 16, which Gabriel will do on 6th October. Were he to make the move to Spain, United would be in line for a modest windfall.

This is owing to regulations permitting a 16-year-old holding an EU passport to join a club within the European Union. United would be entitled to a compensation payment, which is determined by a tariff based on the number of years the player has been at the club.

There is historical precedent for this kind of situation, with Arsenal famously snapping up Cesc Fabregas as a teenager, while United brought Gerard Pique to the club.

However, any compensation figure would be considerably lower than the sum owed were he to join an English club - a recent comparable case being Rio Ngumoha's transfer from Chelsea to Liverpool, which carried a minimum price tag of £2.8million.

Carrick has urged restraint when pressed on the subject of the wonderkid, reminding the footballing world that he remains just a youngster.

Gabriel was omitted from all of England's youth squads amid the ongoing transfer speculation this week, missing out on selection for both the under-19s and under-17s ahead of the forthcoming international break.

Arsenal have also been credited with an interest in Gabriel. Unlike Chelsea, they would not need to wait until next January to sign him if they chose to do so.
