The Milan Cortina 2026 Olympic Flame Relay is nearing its final destination. The 58th stage started in the Bergamo area and wound its way through the main towns of Brianza, before finishing in Como.In the city of Tappa, the torch in Piazza Cavour was lit by Como Calcio coach Cesc Fabregas, much to the delight of local fans. The Spanish coach was not the only notable figure from the world of football to be honoured with carrying the Olympic Flame. Shortly before him, Javier Zanetti, the captain of Inter Milan during their treble-winning era and now a Nerazzurri director, also took on the role of torchbearer.Today's scheduleFollowing the grand evening in Bergamo, the Flame set off again this Tuesday morning from Dalmine, then continued to the municipalities of Capriate San Gervasio and Trezzo sull'Adda. Right here, there was an exceptional torchbearer: basketball star Pau Gasol. The Spanish champion was the first of several former international athletes to carry the Flame today, followed by Frida Hansdotter, Martin Fourcade, and Yuki Ota. The journey also took in Crespi d'Adda, Paderno d'Adda, Robbiate, Merate, Vimercate, Arcore, and Lesmo. Brianza welcomed the torchbearers with great enthusiasm, with many children lining the streets to watch the Olympic Flame pass by.The penultimate relay of the day then took place in Cantù, a city with a strong basketball tradition.Not surprisingly, two historic figures from Pallacanestro Cantù were among the torchbearers: former flag bearer Pierluigi Marzorati and current captain Riccardo Moraschini. Finally, the Flame returned to Lake Como. The final leg began with a spectacular boat ride from Cernobbio, with Zanetti among the torchbearers. The relay then continued through the city of Como, concluding in Piazza Cavour.
