Roy Keane knows who he wants as Man Utd's next manager, Gary Neville is in full agreement

Sky Sports pundits Roy Keane and Gary Neville were both on the same wavelength over who could replace Ruben Amorim as Manchester United manager at Old Trafford.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has publicly backed Ruben Amorim as the head coach of Manchester United after the Premier League club’s disappointing start to the new season.

United are 10th in the Premier League table under Amorim and the Red Devils have won three of their opening seven league matches in the 2025-26 campaign.

However, the Red Devils’ run of form has been sporadic under the 40-year-old United manager and the club have lacked consistency with their results.

United have still not won back-to-back Premier League matches under Amorim since Ineos and Red Devils co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe brought him to Old Trafford.

Ruben Amorim received major support from Ineos in the summer after Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s regime committed to a summer spending spree for Manchester United.

The former Sporting CP head coach received five new summer signings for the 2025-26 season, including the likes of Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha.

United’s underwhelming start to the campaign has cast major speculation over Ineos and Ratcliffe’s commitment to Amorim in the managerial role for the long term.

Roy Keane told fellow United legend Gary Neville that he would want Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone at Old Trafford if Amorim were sacked from the club.

“I’ve said it for years,” he said on The Overlap’s Stick to Football podcast.

“I’d like to see, I’d like Atletico Madrid, Simeone [to] go in there. I’d like to see him go in there.

“I know his mate’s gone to Arsenal, but I think he would just create a havoc, but good havoc. I think he’d rock up to that place and say, ‘This is how you do things.’

“No guarantee, but I just like to see his personality, even his track record.”

Gary Neville’s reaction to Roy Keane backing Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone for the Man Utd head coach role

Diego Simeone has been linked with United before and the longstanding Atletico Madrid manager has impressed during his time at the La Liga club in Spain.

The 55-year-old Argentine has lifted two La Liga titles, two Europa League trophies and a Copa del Rey during his prolific managerial spell at the Metropolitano Stadium.

Simeone has been with Atletico since his exit from Argentine side Racing Club in 2011 and Neville approved of Keane’s pick of Simeone as a future United manager.

“I think I’d go with that. I’d go with Simeone,” Neville added.
