Wobbling Gor Mahia lose again to Tusker in pre-season friendly

Tusker registered a second victory over record Kenya Premier League champions ,Gor Mahia, in less than a month, after seeing them off 3-2 in a pre-season friendly played at the Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday, 20 September.

The Brewers, a week removed from securing their place in the second round of the CAF Confederation Cup preliminary stages, produced a comeback to again floor K’Ogalo, 21 days after beating them 3-1 at the same stadium, to win the 2026 FKF Super Cup.

Played in an unconventional four 30-minute quarters, the friendly offered both teams a taste of competitive football, following another blank weekend in the Kenya Premier League, occasioned by an FKF postponement on Friday, 18 September.

Unlike in the Super Cup, where Gor Mahia never led, K’Ogalo this time took the lead in the 34th minute through Harambee Stars forward Ben Stanley, before new Tusker striker Victor Mbaoma levelled matters for Tusker in the 47th minute.

Gor Mahia would regain their lead four minutes after halftime through their new acquisition Denis Omedi, but for Mbaoma to pull Tusker back into the tie with a penalty in the 77th minute.

Eric Kapaito then sealed the comeback win for The Brewers in the final quarter, scoring the winner in the 99th minute, to make it three successive losses for an evidently troubled Gor Mahia side.

The defeat was Gor Mahia’s third in a row, following their 2-0 and 5-1 defeats to Egyptian giants Pyramids FC, results that sealed K’Ogalo’s early elimination from the CAF Champions League at the first preliminary-round stage.

Following the aforementioned Super Cup loss to Tusker, Gor Mahia played one friendly against Kenya Police, drawing 0-0 at the Police Sacco Stadium.

Both Tusker and Gor Mahia had been scheduled to kick-start their 2026-2027 FKF Premier League seasons on Saturday, 19 September.

Gor Mahia were slated to face Murang’a Seal at Nyayo Stadium, with Tusker due for a meeting with Ulinzi Stars at the Ulinzi Sports Complex.
