Ireland Hopeful Andrew Moran Reportedly Set For Very Odd Loan Move

When looking at the current Ireland squad, there are a few areas that could do with additional depth. While the team is well stocked when it comes to goalkeepers, centre backs, and forwards, there is a lack of options when it comes to midfield.

The middle third has been a problem for quite some time now, both on an off the ball. Heimir Hallgrimsson's side lack physicality in that area, something that often sees them overpowered by opposition teams.

As well as that, quality on the ball has been an issue. Some new playing personnel could be required to change that, with Andrew Moran seen as a potential future solution.

The Dubliner has long been touted as an exciting prospect, coming through the ranks at St Joseph's and Bray Wanderers before making the move to Brighton as a teenager. He has made three senior appearances for Ireland but has struggled to nail down a place in the squad.

Moran has had little opportunity to play first team football at the Amex, while recent loan switches to Blackburn Rovers and Stoke City have produced mixed results. Now, he is set to go down a rather unorthodox route with his next move.

Ireland Hopeful Andrew Moran Reportedly Set For Very Odd Loan Move

Pete O'Rourke of Football Insider is reporting that Andrew Moran is set to join MLS side LAFC on loan, with the deal likely to be completed over the next few days.

This is a rather unexpected move, the type of which we have not seen very often in the recent past. Young Premier League players usually go on loan to the EFL or to the continent, with the decision to go to America a fairly odd one.

The MLS is also coming towards the business end of the campaign, with the regular season set to conclude in October. LAFC are likely to be involved in the play-offs after that point, with the team currently sitting in fifth place in the Western Conference.

Should Moran make the move to Los Angeles, he would link up with a couple of well-known players. Former Spurs stars Heung Min-Son and Hugo Lloris are part of the current LAFC squad.

It remains to be seen how such a move would affect the 21-year old's Ireland chances, although the deal would likely only run until the end of 2025.
