They have said that Kayne Ramsay has shock interest from Serie A side Torino. The 25-year-old right-back made 37 Championship appearances last season, contributing one assist

However, he fell out of the side during the closing weeks of the campaign and did not feature in the final four matches. Ramsay, who has just one year remaining on his contract, is attracting interest from clubs in both England and overseas.

If Charlton are unable to agree a transfer this summer, Torino would be free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with Ramsay from January ahead of a potential free transfer when his deal expires.

Why might Torino be keen on Kayne Ramsay?

Having emerged through Chelsea’s academy before joining Southampton in 2017, Ramsay was regarded as one of English football’s brightest defensive prospects. He signed his first professional contract in 2018 and made his Premier League debut against Manchester City later that year.

However, opportunities at St Mary’s proved limited, prompting loan spells with Shrewsbury Town, Crewe Alexandra and Ross County, where he scored his first senior goal.

A permanent move to Harrogate Town in 2022 allowed Ramsay to establish himself, making more than 60 appearances before Charlton Athletic secured his signature in February 2024 for a significant undisclosed fee.

Since then, he has become a dependable figure across the back line, helping the Addicks earn promotion and cementing his place as a regular Championship starter. Now 25, Ramsay has amassed more than 200 senior appearances.

As an athletic, versatile defender, qualities that make him an attractive, cost-effective target for clubs such as Torino. The Serie A outfit may be looking to replicate the success of Brooke Norton-Cuffy after he may the switch to Italian side Genoa.

The Verdict: Charlton Athletic must start looking at current contracts

The Addicks have had a reasonable start to their transfer window, with three new additions so far.Billy Koumetio and Ivan Mesik have arrived, along with the return of Karlan Grant on a free transfer.

However, Charlton are also starting to see interest in their players, mainly due to their contract situations. Ramsay is the second of their squad to receive interest due to only having a year left on their deals.

Greg Docherty is also attracting attention from other clubs this summer. Blackburn Rovers, Leicester City, Bolton Wanderers and MLS clubs are lurking around him.

While new additions are still imperative, Charlton also need to tie down some of their players in to stop them from moving on for nothing.
