It’s been a while since Virat Kohli has been seen on the cricket field. The batting superstar’s last competitive match was the final of the IPL 2025 that saw him break into tears as Royal Challengers Bengaluru became the champions for the first time in their history. Kohli has since been in London with speculations rife over his India future.

So when will Kohli be back on the cricket field?

Well, it’s a million-dollar question to which only Kohli and Indian team management have an answer to. The former India captain has retired from Tests and T20Is meaning he’s only available to play in ODIs now.

India next play an ODI in October during the white-ball tour of Australia and Kohli is expected to be part of the touring party.

A picture of the 36-year-old is going viral on social media, claimed to be from a practice session.

A report, citing BCCI sources, had claimed that the Kohli and Rohit Sharma will retire after the Australia tour. However, if the two batting stalwarts harbour ambitions of representing India at the 2027 ODI World Cup in Africa, they will have to play in the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy – country’s premier one-day domestic competition.

After the three-match ODI series in Australia, the next time India will play the format is at home when they host South Africa in December, also for three matches. However, there will be plenty of ODIs next year with series against New Zealand (January, October), Afghanistan (June), England (July) and the West Indies (September).
