Abhishek Sharma sets T20I record against Afghanistan - Dawn

India opening batter Abhishek Sharma scored a century off 30 balls in Delhi, India, in the third T20I match against Afghanistan. This is the fastest century in Twenty20 international cricket among players from countries that are full members of the International Cricket Council. India won by 127 runs and completed the three-match series 3–0, Dawn reports.

108 runs off 34 balls

The 26-year-old Sharma scored 108 runs off 34 balls, hitting nine fours and 11 sixes. He was dismissed by Rashid Khan. India’s previous T20I record belonged to Rohit Sharma, who scored a century off 35 balls in a match against Sri Lanka in 2017.

Fellow opening batter and wicketkeeper Sanju Samson scored 50 runs off 35 balls. India finished their innings on 221 for seven after Afghanistan won the toss and chose to field.

Afghanistan bowled out for 94 runs

In reply, Afghanistan lost four wickets for 47 runs and were eventually bowled out for 94 in 14.1 overs. The only Afghan player to score more than 20 runs was captain Ibrahim Zadran, with 25. For India, Nitish Kumar Reddy and spinner Ravi Bishnoi took three wickets each.

India secured the series victory after winning the second match by seven wickets. The team also won the first game by seven wickets. India’s next opponent will be Japan in a one-off T20 match on September 22, and six days later the team will begin its Asian Games campaign from the quarterfinals.
