David Rodriquez might have scored the best goal ever seen in the snow as Atletico Ottawa were crowned Canadian Premier League champions on Sunday.

Played during a blizzard at the TD Place Stadium, Ottawa, in the country’s capital, Rodriquez bagged both for his team in a 2-1 win including a stunning overhead kick.

If an acrobatic effort in a final that went to extra time was not enough, the match was played during a blizzard that coated the pitch with a thick layer of snow.

Rodriquez did not let this effect him as he leapt into the air to equalise in the 40th minute with a goal that some may well have missed due to the conditions.

The ball was hardly rolling on the snow with shovels needed to mark out the edge of the box and pitch for players and fans to see.

That didn’t stop Rodriquez as he leapt into the air to turn a miss-hit shot from his teammate into a stunning goal.

After a failed sidekick from Gabriel Antinoro was sent into the blistery night sky, Cavalry FC did not clear their lines, let the ball bounce, and Rodriquez pounced.

He smashed the winter pink ball into the net and sparked sensational scenes of celebration as his teammates flocked to him in the corner.

The coaching staff dropped to their knees on the sideline as Rodriquez was left at the bottom of a pile of players in the snow.

Ottawa went on to claim the North Star Cup for the first time in their history when Rodriquez scored again in the 107th minute.

Snowploughs were needed to clear up some of the pitch in order for the action to continue but officials regularly had to delay proceedings to allow for markings to be established.

Ottawa goalkeeper Nathan Ingham helped out at one point with more drama occurring when the managers had a disagreement over some of the players being left in the dressing room to remain warm.

Fans were left to question the decision to even start the game.

One user on X wrote: “Can they even see the ball?”.

Another said: “What is this ffs, why are they playing on this conditions?

“Anywhere else this match would be delayed. Crazy, but what a goal tho”.

Someone else added: “How on earth is the game not even postponed”.

Other people said: “Wait, how’s this game even allowed?”
