Bombers announce two list changes

Essendon has today informed Jye Menzie and Alwyn Davey Jnr that they will not be offered playing contracts for the 2026 season.

Menzie joined the Club from South Adelaide as a mid-season draftee back in 2022 with pick No.15.

The small forward went on to play 48 games for the Dons, slotting 33 goals including a career-high tally of four in a Gather Round victory over the Dees earlier this season.

Davey Jnr was announced as a second-generation Don via a father-son pick (No.45 overall) in the 2022 National Draft, following on from his father’s 100-game career with the Club.

The 21-year-old featured in 20 games as a Bomber, including appearances in big fixtures such as Anzac Day and Dreamtime at the ‘G during that period.

“This is a difficult day, as it always is when we have to inform players of these kinds of decisions,” General Manager of AFL Daniel McPherson said.

“Jye Menzie came to the club via the mid-season draft and worked tirelessly to earn his spot. He's a fantastic competitor and we're grateful for his contributions over the past few seasons."

"Alwyn Davey Jr. has been a valuable part of our program, carrying on the family legacy at Essendon. He's shown flashes of his brilliance at AFL and VFL level and we hope he can build on this as his football career continues.

"We thank both Jye and Alwyn for their contribution to the Essendon Football Club. They've been great teammates, and they leave the club with our best wishes,” McPherson said.

With Dylan Shiel’s departure, the Bombers have now made three list changes to date following the conclusion of this season.
