The injury was sustained in an innocuous clash with Palace winger Ismaila Sarr in the 82nd minute.Martinez underwent an operation for after injury with reports stating that recovery periods can vary greatly - spanning from six months to a year. It is claimed that if Martinez's recovery goes smoothly, he could possibly be fit for the start of the new season with United kicking off at home to Arsenal on August 17.The Manchester Evening News understands that the 27-year-old is progressing well in his recovery, although club sources have been reluctant to put a date on his return and have stressed he won't be rushed.And the club confirmed on Sunday via social media that Martinez is continuing his recovery at the club's Carrington training centre.Content cannot be displayed without consentArticle continues belowMartinez was spotted on a handful of matchdays at the end of last season and is a popular member of United's squad among fans.Head coach Ruben Amorim has highlighted Martinez's importance, with the Argentine a regular part of United's back-three under the former Sporting boss before his injury."Licha is really important for us, not just as a football player, but as a character, especially in this hard moment," he said in February. "Now, it's time [for United] to help Licha."I think it's a bad situation.
