India vs Sri Lanka Live score: India 288/2 at stumps vs Sri Lanka on Day-1 in Galle

Well, that is the end of the day's play here in Galle; the light has gotten really dim. We might have added time tommorow and for the remaining Test match. As far as the day's play is concerned, India has batted exceptionally well. The conditions were flat, but the batters still had to score runs, and Devdutt Padikkal has been quite brilliant. KL Rahul too did his part; he will be disgusted that his body did not support him. He will come again in this innings at some point. Sri Lankans, on the other hand, did a few things right, but they did not have a lot of support from the surface, and by the final session, as happens on wickets like this, India started to score quickly and pile on misery. That is it from us folks for today. Do join us tomorrow to get all the updates.

India vs Sri Lanka Live score: IND 285/2 (72.2 overs) vs SL

The issue with pitches like this is that the team which gets to bat tends to get an advantage, and India is making sure they make the most of that. KL Rahul, early in the morning, did all the hard work and made sure he tried the bowlers, and this session has been all about scoring. Orthodox Test match batting from India so far. Devdutt Padikkal, who too is batting from the morning, has looked in no trouble whatsoever. The important thing for Sri Lanka is that when they get their turn to bat, they too score big runs. Given the nature, at least in the first innings, at least two or three batters will get starts, but whether they convert them into centuries will decide the fate of this game for the hosts.

India vs Sri Lanka Live score: IND 274/2 (69.4 overs) vs SL

Runs have been coming quickly for India. This will hurt Sri Lankan bowlers; they have bowled well for most of the day, but now runs are coming quickly and fast. Shubman Gill has shown that intent when he was in the middle, and Rishabh Pant is also batting very well. He is going at almost a run a ball; the run rate has really gone up in this session. The one thing Sri Lanka could have looked back at today and done well is use their seamers more. There were definitely parts of the day when faster bowlers were getting some help, but Dhananjaya De Silva took them out of the attack after just short bursts.

Aug 15, 2026 05:37 PM IST

India vs Sri Lanka Live score: IND 262/2 (67.3 overs) vs SL

Keshara has bowled better than his figures have suggested today here in Galle. He got plenty of drift, which is quite handy in these conditions. KL Rahul did manage to struggle a little against him, but from time to time he has bowled that bad delivery which the Indian batters could punish. He has good attributes to work with for the coaches here in Sri Lanka. Tricky time period here for the Indian batters in terms of batting, but Rishabh Pant continues to attack and play that aggressive cricket; as long as they are working, both the management and Pant would be happy.

Aug 15, 2026 05:27 PM IST

India vs Sri Lanka Live score: IND 246/2 (65.4 overs) vs SL

Well, Rishabh Pant was finding it a little hard against Keshara, but then he decided he had had enough, charged down the track and hit him for a six. Well, that is the way Pant plays; if he feels a bowler is settling into a rhythm, his approach to getting out of it is to take the bowler on. It is good on Dhananjaya De Silva here; despite the two left-handers in the middle, Sri Lanka has continued to go with Prabath Jayasuriya from the other end, who has been bowling well but only has one wicket to show. Sri Lanka would be hoping Keshara can chip in with one before the day's play.

Aug 15, 2026 05:20 PM IST

India vs Sri Lanka Live score: Welcome back!

We are back for the final passage. Russell Arnold on the Air predicts that we might see India get another 30-40 minutes of play here in Galle. The break would have helped Sri Lanka; they were looking a little tired, and then they got Gill, and that break would have rejuvenated him further. If they hit their lines and lengths, they might end up picking a couple more.

India vs Sri Lanka Live score: Good news

Well, the rain has stopped, and the covers have already been removed; it has been that sort of day. The sun is shining brightly here again in Galle. Devdutt Padikkal and Rishabh Pant will come in to bat. Rishabh Pant will have a tricky time in the middle as the Sri Lankan bowlers are getting a bit.

Aug 15, 2026 05:01 PM IST

India vs Sri Lanka Live score: Bad news

Well, we have some news, folks: the rain has come back here, and the players are walking back. The sun is out, but the rain is falling. Well, given the time of day, if the rain persists for another 10-15 minutes, we might call it a day. Do stay with us; we will update you if there is any news.

Aug 15, 2026 04:58 PM IST

India vs Sri Lanka Live score: IND 239/2 (62.5 overs) vs SL

Prabath Jayasuriya has finally gotten the breakthrough, and it is skipper Shubman Gill. He was batting well, but he somehow decided to dance down the track on that occasion and tried to hit it over long-off, but the ball turned slightly, and the fielder took the catch. Gill would think it was a wasted opportunity, given how good the conditions were; he could have made a big score. Rishabh Pant has walked into the middle; well, he will only bat one way, which is to go after the bowling, and it might be the most entertaining part of the day while he is in the middle.

Aug 15, 2026 04:47 PM IST

India vs Sri Lanka Live score: IND 234/1 (60.4 overs) vs SL

The runs have been flowing here since Shubman Gill walked into the middle. He has played a lovely cover drive, and he has taken to the conditions to duck to the water. Warning signs for Sri Lanka: in the first couple of sessions, they could keep the rate under control, and with the squeeze they were applying, it always felt like a wicket was around the corner, but since Gill has come into the middle, things have changed completely. Prabath Jayasuriya has now bowled 20 overs without a wicket. While he has been tidy, it shows how reliant they are on him to pick wickets.

Aug 15, 2026 04:37 PM IST

India vs Sri Lanka Live score: IND 225/1 (58.3 overs) vs SL

That is a sublime century from Padikkal; he has gotten there eventually. Coming in at number three, he attacked the spinners initially, and then once he settled down, he maintained a lovely tempo through that innings. He has been playing consistent domestic cricket, and the way he has batted in the middle against both Prabath Jayasuirya and Keshara has been quite professional. He has the technique for these conditions; a very wristy player. However, his challenge will come when India tends to play in SENA countries, when the ball is moving.

Aug 15, 2026 04:28 PM IST

India vs Sri Lanka Live score: IND 216/1 (56.1 overs) vs SL

Devdutt Padikkal is closing in on his century here. It has been a sublime knock from the batter; the tempo has been quite magnificent from the batter and even now, as we are in the final session, the grace with which he has been playing his shots is quite remarkable. It is all wrist and getting into good head positions to defend the ball. It will be a deserving century if he gets there; regardless, this score should give him a run in the time till the end of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy next year at some position in the batting order. He seems to be at the peak of his batting powers.

Aug 15, 2026 04:18 PM IST

India vs Sri Lanka Live score: IND 200/1 (54 overs) vs SL

Well, a miracle did happen for Sri Lanka. KL Rahul seems to be suffering from cramps; he came to the middle and tried to bat but could not do it, and Shubman Gill has come to the middle. A new batter at the crease at the start of the session; it is an opening Sri Lanka have to take if they have to make something out of this Test match. If India doesn't lose more than one or two wickets in this session, they will look to try and pile on a massive total on Sri Lanka, which will be very hard for the side to get as the wicket will only get worse from here on.

Aug 15, 2026 04:09 PM IST

India vs Sri Lanka Live score: Welcome back!

We are all set for the final session of the play. From an Indian perspective, they would want both batters to get to three-digit scores or at least one of them to get that big hundred. From a Sri Lankan perspective, they will hope some miracle happens, and India ends up self-combusting as the wicket is offering nothing to their bowlers at the moment.

India vs Sri Lanka Live: India 197/1 at Tea vs Sri Lanka in Galle

That's Tea break, a very good afternoon session for the Indian team. Although the run rate did dip a bit, the batting has been quite solid; both batters have gone past their half-centuries and are looking good for centuries. If anything, they would want to rotate the strike a little more just so that the batters don't get stuck at one end. The Sri Lankan bowlers have bowled quite a bit now, Prabath Jayasuriya especially, without picking a wicket. We might see some attacking and proactive approach against him and the others too in that final session. Do stay with us to get all the live updates.

Aug 15, 2026 03:47 PM IST

India vs Sri Lanka Live: IND 192/1 (52 overs) vs SL

We are closing in on the Tea break here. It started a little slowly, but India has done well not to lose any wickets. Sri Lankan bowlers did test the batters with some tidy lines and lengths, but it did not yield any results. Both the batters have played it out with discipline, and now they are extending the partnership here.

Aug 15, 2026 03:38 PM IST

India vs Sri Lanka Live: IND 181/1 (50.3 overs) vs SL

We are 15 minutes away from the Tea break here in Galle, and Indian batters will be hoping to continue to keep this partnership intact and come after the break and continue on their merry way. They have found the tempo right; both KL Rahul and Devdutt Padikkal have been in form. The left-hander has been more aggressive, while the right-hander has looked to be more solid and has been organised. The batter who would be kicking himself is Yashasvi Jaiswal, who got himself run out early on. He could have really scored big runs today the conditions here.

Aug 15, 2026 03:29 PM IST

India vs Sri Lanka Live: IND 171/1 (48.2 overs) vs SL

Prabath Jayasuriya has come back into the attack. Here, he was given a bit of a break, but now back into the attack. He bowled well in that morning session and even in the afternoon session, but he just lacked the cutting edge because of his pace. He needs to find some variations in his bowling other than the orthodox deliveries to pick those wickets at this point; he has been too predictable, and the wicket is not offering much. Rahul and Padikkal just had that time to adjust to his bowling because of that slower pace, and the wicket too has been quite flat.

Aug 15, 2026 03:18 PM IST

India vs Sri Lanka Live: IND 164/1 (45.1 overs) vs SL

Both the batters have gone past their half-centuries and are looking well settled. The ball is now old and seems like the seam is flattened, which happens with the Kookaburra at this stage of the innings. The issue that arises is when there is no help from the surface, as is here; there is nothing the bowlers can do but to just keep bowling accurately and hope a wicket comes. Again, one of the things De Silva can try to do is maintain a seamer from the other end longer than he is doing. In this session, both Kumara and Fernando cumulatively just bowled six overs.

Aug 15, 2026 02:57 PM IST

India vs Sri Lanka Live: IND 138/1 (40 overs) vs SL

We have reached the water break here in Galle in the afternoon session. Well, it has not been as fluent as it was in the morning session, but the Indian batters did manage to grind it out, and both of them are still in the middle. Devdutt Padikkal has gone past his half-century and, given the conditions and where India is in the Test match, anything less than a three-digit score would be a disservice to the kind of class he has displayed here in the middle. KL Rahul, on the other hand, continues to be solid. From a Sri Lankan perspective, there is not a lot in the wicket, and they have to continue to do the same and hope India breaks.

Aug 15, 2026 02:48 PM IST

India vs Sri Lanka Live: IND 134/1 (38.2 overs) vs SL

One of the issues Jayasuriya will face playing against India, be it in Sri Lanka or in India, is his pace. The Indian batters, unlike some of the other batters, have the techniques that can suit the spinners who are a tad bit on the slower side and Jayasuriya, for the most part today, has operated at 82-83 KPH. The bowlers who have the most success against India are Monty Panesar or Mitchell Santner, who tend to bowl into the surface and get that skid on and do not give batters that time to decide what they have to do. Bangladesh, when travelling to India in 2024, faced a similar issue; if Jayasuriya can deliver a quicker one, that will put some doubt in the minds of the Indian batters.

Aug 15, 2026 02:38 PM IST

India vs Sri Lanka Live: IND 121/1 (36 overs) vs SL

Prabath Jayasuriya is already in his 14th over today. Since he came into the attack, he has operated from one end continuously. After those initial boundaries he took against Devdutt Padikkal and KL Rahul, he has now settled into a nice rhythm here. He has that lovely line where every delivery batter has to make the decision: either they want to stride forward or put their weight on the back foot and play the ball, which is not letting them score those runs. However, the tangle for the current Indian partnership, they have stopped rotating strike, which is a pretty slippery slope.

Aug 15, 2026 02:27 PM IST

India vs Sri Lanka Live: IND 118/1 (33.4 overs) vs SL

KL Rahul has gotten himself into a bit of a tangle in his innings here. Ashita Fernando is bowling a superb spell here and is looking to pick a wicket sooner rather than later. Since the break, with this semi-new ball, he is getting that ball to swing more than he did in the morning session. It might have to do with the ball being a little older on the other side, the humid weather, and the air that is blowing here. Sri Lanka has put on quite a squeeze here since the resumption from the break. Prabath Jayasuriya from the other end too has been quite superb.

Aug 15, 2026 02:18 PM IST

India vs Sri Lanka Live: IND 112/1 (31.5 overs) vs SL

This has been a good start by both Sri Lankan bowlers both of them. Ashita Fernando has had a good field set here seems like he is going to bowl straight lines and lengths, which is a good thing to do with the surface not offering much. He did bowl a good bumper to Padikkal, which was pretty skiddy and did surprise the batter for a bat. The tactics have been quite top-notch from Sri Lanka; they just knew what to do and how to do it. If anything, the pitch is just not supporting as much at the moment, and they are looking to keep the runs dry if they cannot pick wickets.

Aug 15, 2026 02:09 PM IST

India vs Sri Lanka Live: IND 106/1 (29.1 overs) vs SL

Prabath Jayasuriya and Ashita Fernando are the bowlers the Sri Lankan skipper has gone in with to start the session. These are the two best bowlers for Sri Lanka over a period of time, so no doubt there. He is getting a bit of nibble in the air, does Fernando. It will be interesting to see how the rain would have affected the surface. One thing, though, Padikkal did seem to struggle against the seam a bit. Lahiru Kumara did trouble him before the break, and after the break, Ashita Fernando hit one on the pads as Padikkal was just on the back foot. He needs to develop that front-foot game if he has to be a successful number three at this level.

Why KL Rahul wants to convert centuries to daddy hundreds

KL Rahul returns to Sri Lanka as one of the batting pillars of his side, a man for tough conditions, and already one of India’s most successful Test openers. Yet, the two-Test tour offers Rahul a shot at ticking a box that has remained unticked in his career — to define a series with consistently big hundreds and stretch his average to a bandwidth that aligns with his true potential.

Rahul’s career as an opener and his impact can’t be truly measured in numbers. As most openers would vouch for, the last decade – especially in SENA countries – has been exceptionally harrowing for their ilk. His average of 38.13 (when opening) is not middling when compared with some of his contemporaries. It is an impressive 42 in the last five years. The retired Sri Lankan stonewaller Dimuth Karunaratne averaged 39.83; Tom Latham 39.18; Kraigg Brathwaite 32.58 and Ben Duckett 38.13. (Read more from Tanishq Vaddi)

India vs Sri Lanka Live Score: Kuldeep Yadav ahead of game

Obviously, long journey, especially for me, playing here at Galle and be part of the 600th Test is a big feeling and I'm feeling very happy about it. [On India arriving around 10 days early and preparing for the Test series] Look, it was very important, firstly, to get that 10 days of window, and then obviously, practice at Colombo for like six days, and those six days were very good in terms of preparing in all the conditions. But yeah, I mean, we got enough time to prepare for the Test series. [On helping the inexperienced players adapt to Sri Lankan conditions] There are a few guys who are travelling here the first time. But yeah, the conditions are a bit different in terms of the wickets we got in the last few practice sessions. But, they have played enough cricket back home. We had a chat about how the Kookaburra ball behaves. In terms of planning and if you look at the other spinners, we'll get extra bounce here. So those were the chats we had amongst the group. I'm pretty sure they're ready to go. [On the conditions] If you look at the last couple of games which we played at Galle, they were good batting wickets and teams scored very high in the first innings. If you get a spinning track, then probably spin more. It's a good stadium and good wicket to play cricket. And wind plays a factor as well. So I think it'll be a good experience.

India’s Galle goals: Killing spin demons, nailing batting spots, staying afloat in WTC

The Galle weather in August is unpredictable. It is usually warm and humid like most parts of Sri Lanka. But in the southern coast with the monsoon winding up, showers can show up impromptu. Just like the weather, the strip at the picturesque venue overlooking the Galle Fort can be equally tough to predict, particularly during the second half of a Test. It can create illusions in batsmen’s mind, its notorious invariable bounce never makes batsmen feel completely comfortable.

Ajantha Mendis, the mystery spin OG, was eagerly awaiting this showdown as far back in February. “They may well come very well prepared. Because, if New Zealand and South Africa spinners can do it, then Sri Lanka spinners can definitely cause more problems,” he had told The Indian Express. (Read more from Venkata Krishna B)

Why search for a solid No.3 continues in post-Cheteshwar Pujara era

At the start of their transition under captain Shubman Gill last year, India benched wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav throughout the five-match Test tour of England. It had little to do with Kuldeep’s prowess and more with an unstable spot in the batting order.

India’s faltering Test number three has stripped the team of qualities essential to dominant Test forces: a batting order maintaining equilibrium and an XI bold enough to field all of its match-winners at once. The No.3 churn will resume this week against Sri Lanka in Galle, when India will play a third different batter in the slot in three matches in the current World Test Championship (WTC) cycle. India vs Sri Lanka Live Score: India 101/1 at Lunch vs Sri Lanka in Galle

Well, that is the end of the morning session, and apart from that unfortunate runout of Yashasvi Jaiswal, it has been India who has completely dominated the session. KL Rahul has looked like his usual self, solid, defending the balls well and picking his moments to attack the bowlers. Devdutt Padikkal, though, since walking in, has looked million dollars; he has played some crisp shots on both sides of the wicket. On the bowling front, Prabath Jaysuirya did bowl decently but did not live up to the reputation he had; the seamers did an okayish job upfront, and the debutant Keshara too was pretty decent with the drift. We will be right back after the break; do stay with us, folks.

Aug 15, 2026 11:56 AM IST

India vs Sri Lanka Live Score: IND 96/1 (25.2 overs) vs SL

Devdutt Padikkal is playing a nice breezy innings here. He has played some lovely drives and crisp flicks. Because he is a pretty wristy player, he tends to look pretty good while batting in the middle. He has got a start here; it is his opportunity to make this a big score and make that number three slot his own.

Aug 15, 2026 11:48 AM IST

India vs Sri Lanka Live Score: IND 89/1 (23 overs) vs SL

One good thing the Indian batters did, especially KL Rahul, is that whenever Jayasuriya tossed the ball up, Rahul lofted it right away. There were no half-measures in that shot from him, which is good, not letting Jayasuriya look for that turn and forcing him to pull the length back. When the bowler of his pace as a spinner tends to pull his length back, he becomes pretty ineffective. Good strategy this from the Indian batters; however, will they be able to keep generating that power against the softer ball as the surface keeps getting slower and slower and what more tricks does Jayasuriya have up his sleeve?

Aug 15, 2026 11:39 AM IST

India vs Sri Lanka Live Score: IND 76/1 (20.1 overs) vs SL

KL Rahul is having his issues against Keshara here. The ball is drifting back quite sharply to him and is forcing him to push back consistently, and he is trying to cut the ball through the off-side, but because these bowlers don't bowl pretty quickly, he is finding it hard. Jayasuriya has also got a couple of deliveries turned, and those are the ones where the bowler dragged Rahul forward and turned it from there. They are getting into a bit of a tangle; here are the Indian batters. The most important thing for them to do would be to keep the strike rotation going; that will irritate the bowlers.

Aug 15, 2026 11:28 AM IST

India vs Sri Lanka Live Score: IND 74/1 (17.3 overs) vs SL

Lahiru Kumara is bowling pretty well in this spell here. He has been given the field to bowl straight against Padikkal with fielders in front of the batter, and that is what he has done. Padikkal did start quite fluently in those initial deliveries but did not look as convincing against Kumara as he did against the spinners. The fast bowler has been rushing the batter here. Padikkal tends to stay on the back foot, and against a bowler as high-paced as Kumara, it might be a bit of a problem. Meanwhile, KL Rahul is just doing his thing of hanging at the crease and playing each ball on its merits.

Aug 15, 2026 11:18 AM IST

India vs Sri Lanka Live Score: IND 63/1 (15 overs) vs SL

Devdutt Padikkal has come into the middle and has looked quite proactive against the spinners. He has charged down against Jayasuriya and whacked one delivery down the ground for a six. De Silva, though, realising that Padikkal might be looking to take on the spinners, has brought in Lahiru Kumara for a second spell, which is a very good move. Operating with two similar kinds of bowlers, be it spinners or seamers, is not such a bright thing to do on the day surfaces in the subcontinent, and so far the wicket has played pretty well, and we might get a good Test match. Sri Lanka bats well.

Aug 15, 2026 11:08 AM IST

India vs Sri Lanka Live Score: IND 54/1 (13 overs) vs SL

It is a pretty odd way to get out: KL Rahul hit the ball straight back to the bowler. Keshara, trying to stop the ball, managed to collide with Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Rahul was halfway down the wicket for the single. Jaiswal first took a few steps and then returned to his non-striker's end while Rahul completed his single, and the stumps were taken at the bowler's end. The umpires did check with De Silva, and he did say Sri Lanka wanted to take the wicket. Well, the rules of the game say yay! Probably depending on which team you support, the spirit of the game conversations might spark on social media.

Aug 15, 2026 10:59 AM IST

India vs Sri Lanka Live Score: IND 47/1 (11 overs) vs SL

Keshara is bowling really well here. He is giving a lot of revolutions on the ball and is turning it back into the right-hander, and Rahul at this point is not clearly picking him up well. He might be quite a threat to the Indian batters as the Test match goes on. One thing the Sri Lankan spinners do differently from the Indian spinners is that they tend to bowl a lot more slowly, which makes it hard to play shots. Indians have to find other ways to score runs, and in these conditions, once the ball gets 40-45 overs old, playing those attacking shots become reallu tough for the batters. As we update, Yashavi Jaiswal is run out here.

Aug 15, 2026 10:48 AM IST

India vs Sri Lanka Live Score: IND 38/0 (9.3 overs) vs SL

It is off-spinner Keshara De Silva opted to go first. He is getting nice drift here early in the piece. There is a steady wind going across the ground, and Rahul tried to drive the ball, but the ball hit him on the sticker of the bat. Rahul could not read that delivery. Well, as we update, Prabath Jayasuriya too has been brought into the attack from the other end. He is the bowler India will be watching out for; he is a machine when he gets into rhythm. He has had the habit of running through the opposition. And India have had their fair share of issues against the left-arm spinners in the past.

Aug 15, 2026 10:40 AM IST

India vs Sri Lanka Live Score: IND 29/0 (7.4 overs) vs SL

This is a solid start for India. Yashasvi Jaiswal has been quite positive in the way he has batted here. We have seen both Rahul and Jaiswal dovetailed quite nicely in their opening partnership since getting together. While Jaiswal is a little more positive with his approach, Rahul is more orthodox and temperamentally sound, and not to forget that one is a left-hander and the other is a right-hander, which always causes issues for the bowler with the angle change. Indian dressing room will be pretty relaxed with this foundation; the pitch has shown no demons whatsoever thus far.

Aug 15, 2026 10:29 AM IST

India vs Sri Lanka Live Score: IND 17/0 (5.4 overs) vs SL

Things have been going pretty smoothly for the Indians. They have been playing conventional cricket, nothing fancy. They have left the ball, which was around the fourth-stump channel, without trying to go too hard and the ones which are on the off-stump they have defended well. Apart from the breeze, there has not been a lot of help for the seamers here. Ideally De Silva would want his fast bowlers to make the most of this new ball as the day goes on; once the spinners start getting into the game, the seamers might not have a lot to do. However, ideally, since it is day 1, one would expect there will be spells where both spinners and seamers operate in tandem; we will see how the Sri Lankan captain goes. Things are looking positive for the Indian batters.

One of the things Indian openers or players find different is how the wicket behaves in the morning sessions. In Indian conditions, due to the start at 9:30 or 9 in some of the venues, there tends to be a bit of moisture every day in the morning session, which will bring both seamers and spinners into the game. The SG ball, with its prominent seam, offers a lot more than the Kookaburra though on the other hand, the seam gets flats by the 40th over mark, and the start is at 10 with that 30-60 minutes delayed the moisture tends to dry out a little more, so it is only until the wicket starts to dusting out the bowlers will have anything to work with.

We are done with the opening. Over there, there is a steady breeze going across the ground, which will help the bowlers to get some swing initially. Ashita Fernando bowled that over, and in his attempt to bowl an inswinger ended up bowling it on the pads, which Yashasvi Jaiswal flicked for a boundary. Looked like a good surface in that opening over; there is no seam movement on the surface despite it being the first day of the Test match, as there will be some moisture in it because of all the rain we have had for the last couple of days. Lahiru Kumara has taken the new ball from the other end.

India vs Sri Lanka Live Score: Let's go!

The national anthems are done; we are there. The action is going to begin shortly. It is a beautiful day here in Galle, and the team winning the toss in the subcontinent will always have a significant advantage. However, India have to make the most of it and bat long and bat big in this first innings.

IND vs SL Live Score: Pitch report by Sanjay Manjrekar

Teams have scored 600 after winning the toss and batting first, and sometimes they have also been bowled out for 120. So clearly, there are two types of pitches here. The one today is looking very good to me. It looks as if the entire pitch is covered with grass, so there are no rough or patchy areas. If you look at it, the pitch has a very beautiful appearance, which makes me feel that batting should be relatively easy. This is not a rank turner, so let me make that clear first. If you win the toss, you would want to bat first, but for the first 30-40 minutes, you will have to play carefully against the seamers because the pitch hasn't yet lost its colour, which means there is still a little bit of moisture. Whenever there is grass, you can get some lateral movement simply because of the green grass. So this is a pitch where you want to bat first and put up a big score, because batting in the fourth innings in Galle is very difficult. the average score here is around 120-130. So the toss is very important, as always, and both teams will want to bat first and make the most of this beautiful pitch.

IND vs SL Live Score: What did Dhananjaya De Silva at toss

Yeah, it (pitch) looks good. I was hoping to bat as well. It's quite dry as well. Nishan Madushka comes in for Pathum Nissanka and Niroshan Dickwella will be keeping, and Keshara will be debuting today. Two fast bowlers, two spinners, and two all-rounders, including me and Sonal Dinusha. [50th Test match in Galle] To be part of this Test match, it's an iconic ground, and yeah, I'm very happy to play this match as well.

IND vs SL Live Score: What did Shubman Gill say at toss?

We're gonna bat first, looks like a good wicket and the weather also looks good, so hopefully it's gonna be a good day of cricket for us. We've gone with the same playing XI that we played the last match. We've got five bowlers, two fast bowlers and three spinners. Very big honor for me, every time you get an opportunity to lead your country, and even more so special on this occasion. Independence Day for us and 600th Test match, so looking forward.

IND vs SL Live Score: What did Shubman Gill say ahead of game?

"In grounds which are open, wind sometimes plays a crucial part. As a batsman, even in team meetings we talk about it - if you want to take on a spinner, we have to see if the wind is with us or against us. Most of the grounds in India are closed with the stands. In open grounds, the wind plays a huge role."
