Gary Neville caught out in Leeds United comment as Sky Sports pundit issues apologyManchester United legend Gary Neville was in the Sky Sports studio alongside Jamie Carragher to preview Leeds United's Premier League opener against EvertonGary Neville laughs on Sky Sports after his Leeds United gaffe (Image: Sky Sports)Manchester United icon Gary Neville couldn't resist a Leeds United dig as he was left-raced after following his Sky Sports blunder. However, he later doubled down and reiterated his cheeky jibe towards Leeds fans.Sky had their cameras positioned at Elland Road on Monday for the Whites' Premier League comeback as they faced Everton. Both Neville and Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher were given the responsibility of dissecting the weekend's matches whilst also providing a preview of Daniel Farke's squad for their top-flight curtain-raiser.Nevertheless, the pundit found himself red-faced after miscalculating the duration of an advert interval during their transmission, with the programme returning ahead of schedule.Video footage captures a tight shot of Leeds supporters before their season opener, but without Neville's knowledge, the cameras were broadcasting live and he could be heard remarking: "That's one group of fans I wouldn't want to go near."Host Dave Jones attempted to alert his co-presenter that they were on air, though this didn't prevent the panel from chuckling at the mishap.Article continues belowHe stepped in: "I do have to apologise."Neville showed no fear of further provoking Leeds supporters when he reinforced his stance, stating: "One group of fans I wouldn't go anywhere near."Jones then responded: "I don't think they want you anywhere near, it's fine."They have been looking forward to this."The one-club man enjoyed huge success at Old Trafford before hanging up his boots and Neville previously set out his stall that he would've never played for one of United's rivals."I'd made the decision quite early in my 30s that if Sir Alex [Ferguson] had come and told me my time was up, I wouldn't have played for anyone else. I was fortunate in that sense," he said."However, if he'd come to me at say the age of 28, and told me my time was up, of course I would have played for another Premier League club."Who would I have played for? You can rule out three: I'd have never have played for City, Liverpool or Leeds. Not in a million years. I don't feel anything bad towards the players who did that, but me personally, I couldn't have done it. The rivalry is just too much."If you'd said to me, in a perfect world, in my years of playing, which clubs in the Premier League have the tradition, a proper club? Arsenal would be number one."The tradition of Highbury, I felt they did things the right way. Also in the Premier League, I like Aston Villa and Newcastle."In Europe, I admired Juventus and Bayern Munich. I respected them as football clubs. Bayern were meticulous in their preparation, so internationally, it would be them."Here at The Manchester Evening News, we are dedicated to bringing you the best Manchester United coverage and analysis.Article continues belowMake sure you don't miss out on the latest United news by joining our free WhatsApp group.
