Words: Will MorrisHereford FC will hope to turn recent form around as they return to the MandM Edgar Street Stadium on Tuesday night and take on Spennymoor Town.STATE OF PLAYAfter an encouraging start to Aaron Downes’ reign, consecutive losses to AFC Fylde, Alfreton Town and Macclesfield FC mean the Bulls remain in the relegation zone.Downes’ men put in a resilient display at Moss Rose, playing the second half with 10 men due to Harrison Sohna’s dismissal. However, the Silkmen took all three points thanks to a Luke Duffy brace and late Isaac Buckley-Ricketts strike. The visitors were provided a lifeline by the in-form George Munday, but fell short in a 3-1 defeat.Downes was beaming with positivity after the game, though, saying, ‘’I am extremely proud of our football club today. I can’t tell you how proud I am of the players, of our supporters, and the way we went about it today. We were excellent.’‘’We’ve been clapped off unbelievably by an amazing support we’ve just had. And then as you’re walking down the tunnel, we’ve been clapped off by their supporters. That goes to show you how good we were . With 11 men, we win that in my opinion.’’THE OPPOSITIONSpennymoor travel to the MandM Edgar Street Stadium unbeaten in three outings. The Moors also faced Alfreton last week, drawing 1-1 courtesy of Kian Foreman’s leveller. The point means the Moors sit in 13th position with two matches in hand on Chester, Radcliffe and AFC Telford United, who are all eyeing play-off places. The visitors have been steady away from the Brewery Field this term, accumulating 27 points from 19 games on the road – the 10th best record in the division. With play-off chasing form over the last 10 games, losing just three, Tommy Miller and Matty Dolan’s charges will be out to extend this buoyant record on Tuesday night.ONE TO WATCH: GLEN TAYLORThe National League North has been a happy hunting ground for Taylor over the years – he is Spennymoor’s all-time leading goalscorer since joining in 2015/16.The 35-year-old continues to provide the goals for the Moors, with 19 to his name in the league this season. Taylor has fond memories of facing the Bulls too, netting eight times in 13 clashes, including the opener in this season’s reverse fixture. With strikes against Curzon Ashton and Merthyr Town in his last three appearances, his 90th-minute winner completing the Moors’ comeback at Penydarren Park, the prolific marksman could hit the 20-goal mark once again on Tuesday evening.HEAD-TO-HEADHereford and Spennymoor have met on 13 occasions since 2017/18, with the Bulls only triumphing twice. The visitors will be seeking a ninth victory in midweek, looking for a repeat of the season opener when Taylor and Dan Rowe notched in a 2-0 victory.Furthermore, Hereford have found it difficult to infiltrate the Moors’ defence in recent years, registering a paltry two goals in the last six encounters between the sides. The Bulls’ last win over Tuesday’s opponents came in December 2023, after a Lassana Mendes stunner and 91st-minute Jason Cowley cracker at the MandM Edgar Street Stadium – the solitary home success against Spennymoor in six attempts.Hereford’s home form has improved, though, picking up 12 points from the last 18 via wins over Darlington (1-0), Chester (5-2), Leamington (5-1) and South Shields (2-1).LAST FIVE MEETINGSAugust 2025SPENNYMOOR 2-0 HEREFORDFebruary 2025HEREFORD 0-2 SPENNYMOORSeptember 2024SPENNYMOOR 0-0 HEREFORDDecember 2023HEREFORD 2-1 SPENNYMOOR (Mendes, Cowley)September 2023SPENNYMOOR 2-0 HEREFORDTICKETSShow your support as the Bulls take on the Moors.
