Wimbledon Centre Court erupts into boos as Novak Djokovic left fuming

Wimbledon's iconic Centre Court erupted into boos as Novak Djokovic launched into another tirade at the umpire. The Serbian star was left enraged over what he felt was a mis-call during his quarter-final with Felix Auger-Aliassime. During the third set, which Djokovic led 5-2, he accused the official of not using the full range of tools at their disposal to supervise the match.

Having taken a 30-15 lead in the point, Djokovic had another perfect chance to break his Canadian opponent, having done so already in the set. But when he could not return Auger-Aliassime's serve, Djokovic insisted that it touched the net cord and should have been given as a let.

This evening's umpire, Louise Azemar Engzell of Sweden, did not agree with Djokovic's assessment and decided to award the point to Auger-Aliassime.

To which point, the 39-year-old turned to the official in complete bemusement.

Djokovic shouted "let, let, let" as his return sailed well beyond the baseline before rushing over to Azemar Engzell to launch his protest.

He questioned: "You didn't see the let? This is embarrassing, come on. You don't have to use the machine you can also use your... I mean."

Tim Henman, on BBC commentary duties, explained that there is no technology at Wimbledon for calling a let.

At this point, as Djokovic turned back around in dismay to continue the game, Centre Court erupted into a chorus of boos.

It was unclear whether the crowd voiced their disappointment in Djokovic's reaction or the umpire's decision not to replay the point.

But Djokovic had already expressed his anger in the contest when officials decided to close the roof on Centre Court at a time that he believed was premature.

Tournament referee Denise Parnell came onto court to explain why the roof was being shut at 7.40pm.

He fumed: “Why now? Why? The other day you didn’t want to close it until, like, 8.20, 8.30, and now you want to close it? You don’t want to get to 8.30? It’s 7.40 now. We can play a whole another set. Outdoors. We are an outdoor tournament."
