Patidar entered his name in the history books on Sunday (May 31) by becoming second Indian to score 500 runs in an IPL season for RCB.

Rajat Patidar is leading Royal Challengers Bengaluru in IPL 2026 and on Sunday (May 31), during the final of this year’s IPL, he entered his name in the history books by becoming the second Indian cricketer after Virat Kohli to score 500 runs in a single edition of the IPL for RCB.

The right-handed batter from Madhya Pradesh, who led RCB to their maiden IPL title in 2025, needed 14 runs in the final against Gujarat Titans to take his tally to 500 runs in IPL 2026, and he needed just 12 balls to reach the milestone.

Kohli has scored more than 500 runs in an IPL season for RCB nine times so far.

Rajat is overall the seventh player after Virat Kohli, Jacques Kallis, Chris Gayle, AB de Villiers, Glenn Maxwell and Faf du Plessis to score 500 or more runs in a single edition of the IPL for RCB.

The record for scoring the most runs in a single edition of the IPL is held by Virat Kohli. In the 2016 edition of the IPL, Kohli played 16 matches and amassed a total of 973 runs. He slammed four centuries and seven half-centuries for the Bengaluru-based franchise that season and won the Orange Cap.

Patidar is the third RCB captain to score 500-plus runs in an IPL season. Before him, Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis (in 2023) had also scored more than 500 runs in a single edition of the Indian Premier League as captains of Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

Patidar, who led RCB to their maiden IPL title in 2025, will become only the third captain in IPL history to win back-to-back titles if RCB defeat GT in the ongoing match.
