Amanda Anisimova cruises into Round 2

1
Play is underway on Day 2 of Wimbledon with last year's women's finalist, Amanda Anisimova, easily winning her first-round match.

Under overcast skies in London, the sixth-seeded Anisimova rolled past Lina Gjorcheska of North Macedonia in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.

But the most anticipated match of the day at the All England Club will come this afternoon when Serena Williams plays her first singles match in nearly four years against 20-year-old Maya Joint of Australia. Williams, 44, last took to the court in singles at the 2022 US Open.

Also set to compete Tuesday are women's No. 3 seed Iga Swiatek, men's No. 2 seed Alexander Zverev of Germany, and Americans Taylor Fritz (seeded sixth) and Ben Shelton (seeded fourth).
