US Open 2025: Recovered Jannik Sinner drops just four games in rout of Vit Kopriva

Jannik Sinner showed no signs of the illness that plagued him last week as the world No. 1 flew past unseeded Vit Kopriva in three sets at the US Open tennis on Tuesday (26 August).

The men's singles defending champion won 6-1, 6-1, 6-2 to progress in a cool 1 hour, 39 minutes against his Czech opponent who was playing in the main draw for his first time.

The Italian had to retire from the Cincinnati Open final against Carlos Alcaraz on 18 August because he was sick, and pulled out of the US Open mixed doubles the following day.

But on this day, Sinner was nothing short of clinical, dropping only four games - his second fewest in a Grand Slam match - and was on serve throughout. He extended his hard-court Grand Slam winning streak to 22 matches.

Sinner is attempting to become just the fourth man in history to reach the final of all four majors in the same calendar year.

“Obviously very happy that I’m healthy again, that we did our best to be in the best possible shape here,” Sinner said. “You come here starting this tournament, hopefully, the best possible way, which I did.”
