Harry Maguire signs one-year Manchester United contract extension as squad trains at Carton House in Kildare

The centre-half is in Ireland this week as Michael Carrick's first-team squad took part in a training camp in the Kildare venue because of a three-and-a-half week vaccuum between Premier League fixtures,as a result of the recent international window and United’s early exit from the cup competitions.

Maguire was in the final few months of his existing deal, but the 33-year-old, who joined from Leicester in an £80m deal back in 2019, has agreed new terms that include an option for a further year.

“Representing Manchester United is the ultimate honour,” Maguire said. “It is a responsibility that makes myself and my family proud every single day.

“I am delighted to extend my journey at this incredible club to at least eight seasons and continue to play in front of our special supporters to create more amazing moments together.

“You can feel the ambition and potential of this exciting squad. The determination throughout the whole club to fight for major trophies is clear for everyone to see and I am confident that our best moments together remain ahead of us.”

Maguire has been ever-present for United since Michael Carrick took charge, helping the club rise up to third in the Premier League with a return to the Champions League now the clear objective.

His form earned Maguire an England recall last month – making his first appearances for the Three Lions in 18 months when he played both friendlies at Wembley – and put him in contention for a place at this summer’s World Cup.

In all, Maguire has made 266 appearances for United, lifting the FA Cup and Carabao Cup with the club.
