Afghan cricketer Rashid Khan confirms second marriage, 10 months after first

Afghanistan all-rounder Rashid Khan has put rumours to rest, confirming his second marriage, just 10 months after his first marriage, in a candid social media post that combines personal revelation with a request for privacy. Khan, a spinner, plays for the Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Rumours of the T20 skipper's second marriage began after photos and videos from the Rashid Khan Charity Foundation event in the Netherlands showed him seated next to a woman in traditional Afghan clothing.

He entered into his second marriage on August 2, just 10 months after his first wedding in October 2024. Three of his brothers—Amir Khalil, Zakiullah, and Raza Khan—also tied their knots on October 3 in Kabul.

The news emerged with a social-media post from the spinner, in which he wrote:

"On August 2nd 2025, I began a new and meaningful chapter of my life. I had my nikkah done and married a woman who embodies the love, peace, and partnership I always hoped for. I recently took my wife to a charity event, and it's unfortunate to see assumptions being made from something so simple.

The truth is straightforward: she is my wife, and we stand together with nothing to hide. To everyone who has shown kindness, support, and understanding, thank you."

Rashid has not shared any details about his wife, who also seems to prefer staying out of the public eye.

CRICKETER RASHID KHAN'S FIRST WIFE IS HIS MATERNAL COUSIN

Rashid Khan's first marriage took place last year to his maternal cousin. His first marriage was attended by many of his national teammates. Mohammad Nabi, Naseeb Khan, Azmatullah Omarzai, and Mujeeb Ur Rehman were among those who attended his 2024 wedding.

His first wedding, a grand affair blending family traditions and celebrity, drew widespread congratulations from the cricketing world, but the second has elicited a more measured response, with Khan prioritising his new partner's comfort.

Rashid became Afghanistan's cricket team captain for all three formats in 2019. His efforts, both as a leader and a player, have elevated Afghanistan's stature in international cricket.

Rashid is the top wicket-taker in T20Is, claiming 182 wickets in 108 matches at an average of 13.69.

Under his captaincy, Afghanistan made it to the semi-finals in last year's T20 World Cup.

Rashid recently launched the Rashid Khan Foundation to support education, healthcare, and clean water projects for vulnerable Afghan families.

While many on social media slammed Rashid Khan over his second marriage, he found defenders too.

"I'm against Rashid Khan for his alliance with Taliban, and that alone is enough to criticize him. But dragging his personal life is the lowest sign for personal character. He shouldn't have to explain whether someone is his wife or anything else. That’s nobody's f*** business," wrote human rights lawyer Natiq Malikzada on X.
