#NextGenATP American Nishesh Basavareddy captured his first tour-level win since the start of January on Tuesday when he reached the second round at the Mifel Tennis Open by Telcel Oppo in Los Cabos.

The 20-year-old dispatched Colombian qualifier Nicolas Mejia 6-4, 6-1 at the ATP 250 hard-court event. Basavareddy is currently sixth in the PIF ATP Live Race To Jeddah and aiming to return to the Next Gen ATP Finals presented by PIF this year.

Basavareddy, who reached the semi-finals in Auckland at the start of the season, will next meet eighth seed Adam Walton, who defeated #NextGenATP Mexican Rodrigo Pacheco Mendez 7-6(5), 6-2.

Mexican wild card Luis Carlos Alvarez sealed his first ATP Tour win with victory against James McCabe. The 20-year-old earned a 6-1, 6-2 success to join countryman Alex Hernandez in the second round. It is the first time multiple Mexican men have reached the second round at an ATP Tour event since Mexico City in 1998.

Alvarez saved all six break points he faced, according to Infosys ATP Stats, to set a second-round clash with seventh seed Aleksandar Kovacevic.

In other action, China’s Buyunchaokete snapped a nine-match losing streak at tour-level by overcoming Mexican qualifier Alan Magadan. It is the sixth seed's first win since Miami in March. Qualifier Wu Yibing was unable to follow his countryman into the second round. The Chinese star lost to Tristan Schoolkate, with the Australian advancing 4-6, 6-4, 6-1.

James Duckworth defeated Adrian Mannarino 6-3, 6-4 to improve to 2-3 in the pair’s Lexus ATP Head2Head series, while fifth seed Daniel Altmaier downed Mitchell Krueger 6-4, 6-3. American Govind Nanda beat countryman Colton Smith 6-4, 6-2.
