Jamie Carragher can't stop laughing at Gary Neville's pick for this season's manager to watch

Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville shared their predictions for the 2025/26 Premier League season and the Liverpool icon couldn’t believe one his colleague’s selections

Gary Neville slammed Jamie Carragher ’s ‘disrespect’ after laughing at his prediction that Ruben Amorim could be this season’s manager to watch. The two Sky Sports pundits issued their predictions for the 2025/26 Premier League season on Monday evening.

Alongside the regular selections of Premier League winners, relegated teams and top scorers, the pair also pointed the spotlight on managers to keep an eye on. Liverpool icon Carragher plumped for Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner - the Austrian having led the Eagles to the FA Cup and Community Shield in 2025.

Neville had a different idea though and selected Manchester United boss Amorim. Seeing that prediction, Carragher burst into fits of laughter, which did not go down too well with Neville.

He said: “Why you laughing?” to which Carragher replied: “You pick the Man United manager every year on that.”

“I don’t pick them every year, it’s disrespectful,” Neville then said before Carragher pointed out: “You picked three of the last year and one of them was Ten Hag.”

Explaining his thought process, the United icon said: “The reason last year was a similar reason to this. Ten Hag last year because I knew if he started badly, he’d be under massive pressure. Similarly, there’s probably going to be no in between here.

“Ruben Amorim, if he starts off badly and they’re in 13th, 14th in October, November, he’s going to be under massive pressure. He’s the Manchester United manager, he has to deliver in these first few months of the season and I think he will outperform.

“I know you’re not sure about him and you sort of wrote your article the other day saying that you think he’s not that good. Well, what was your article about?”

Carragher then replied: “It was about the two managers, Arteta and Amorim and how Amorim would be delighted if he was in Arteta’s position in three or four years.”

United have already made a difficult start following a summer that has seen them spend over £200m. They slipped to a slender 1-0 reverse to Old Trafford on Sunday - Amorim’s 15th Premier League defeat in 28 games since his arrival at the club from Sporting Lisbon.

United will be aiming to get back on track this weekend as they take on Fulham at Craven Cottage. The Red Devils then kick off their Carabao Cup campaign the following week with a showdown with Grimsby Town.
