On June 29, 1920, King Alfonso XIII granted Madrid the title of Real. He did so through a letter sent by the monarch's Chief Steward to the club's president, Pedro Parages, which bestowed the right to use this designation. The letter stated: “His Majesty the King, whom God preserve, has been pleased to grant with the greatest satisfaction the Title of Real to that Football Club of which you are the worthy President, and which henceforth may prefix this designation to its name. This is communicated to you by Royal command for your knowledge and corresponding effects.”This concession allowed the club to bear the royal crown on its crest, and from that year onwards, Madrid Football Club was renamed Real Madrid Football Club.
