Gary Neville’s Comment on Leeds Fans Caught in Sky Sports Blunder Before Everton Game

Gary Neville was caught insulting the fans of Leeds United ahead of their return to the Premier League, thanks to a hilarious mistake during Monday Night Football. Daniel Farke's side are back in the top flight for the first time since 2023, having secured promotion from the Championship at the second time of asking.

Their return came at home to David Moyes' Leeds, which was being covered by Sky Sports on Monday Night Football, with Neville and Jamie Carragher acting as analysts in the studio. However, moments before kick-off, the former Manchester United full-back was caught not mincing his words regarding the Elland Road faithful in a clip that immediately sparked reaction on social media.

As Leeds and Everton lined up in the tunnel, the Sky Sports programme seemed to suffer from a technical difficulty, returning from an ad break earlier than expected. This appeared to catch Neville off guard, as he was caught making a quip about the Leeds United fans.

As the show came back to air, the 50-year-old could be heard saying: "Probably the one group of fans I wouldn't want to go anywhere near."

As the former full-back realised he was back on air, he turned to the camera and laughed, saying "Did you hear that?" While Jamie Carragher struggled to maintain his composure, presenter Dave Jones attempted to apologise for the remarks, only for Neville to double down on his statement and repeat his scathing words.

Jones then got in on the act, responding, "I don't think they want you anywhere near them so it's fine," a perfect summation of the feelings Leeds fans likely have towards Neville.

Of course, the pundit's links to Old Trafford would instantly make him an unpopular figure at Elland Road. However, after his comments, the former England international did save face when commenting on the remarkable atmosphere created at Elland Road.

The Yorkshire stadium is famed for its passionate support of the Whites, and when asked what was to be expected ahead of kick-off for the first time in the top flight for two years, Neville stated that Elland Road was: "One of the great grounds and great atmospheres" in the country.
