Tom Hounsell: Wycombe Wanderers interim boss does not comment on permanent role

Interim Wycombe Wanderers head coach Tom Hounsell refused to be drawn into a discussion about taking the job on a permanent basis despite making an excellent start in caretaker charge.

Hounsell has won all of his three matches since Michael Duff was sacked earlier this month after a poor start to the season.

The 30-year-old took his first game in charge in the 3-2 victory at Leyton Orient and the club have gone on to beat Chelsea Under-21s in the EFL Trophy as well as Wigan on Saturday.

After taking over with the club second-bottom of the table, Hounsell's instant impact has helped Wycombe climb up to 14th in League One.

Hounsell's only previous managerial experience was a 12-match stint as interim boss of Burton Albion in 2024 before Gary Bowyer's appointment.

"I've said it before. My thoughts are never on myself, it's about the group of players," Hounsell told BBC Three Counties Radio.

"I'm employed by this football club, ultimately, to help us get wins. That's my commitment and it's a commitment from the whole staff.

"I'm pleased with the work we're doing, pleased with the momentum we're taking, pleased with the week that we've had but I haven't thought more about it than that.

"Whoever is manager of this football club is in an incredibly blessed position. It's an incredibly privileged role to have.

"Whatever happens with the manager's post, that individual will be extremely lucky to work with this group of players and the structure and processes that exist behind the scenes."
