Rohit Juglan in PerthAfter an optional training session yesterday, the Indian team returned to the nets on Friday afternoon, with all players taking part. And once again, it was the comeback man — Virat Kohli — who stole the spotlight during the session. The first half of the session was all about Kohli and his magnetic energy on the field. Right from the moment the Indian team began their warm-ups, Kohli appeared to be in a different zone. With the sun beating down heavily on a lazy afternoon, it was Kohli’s infectious energy that kept the players on their toes and thrilled both teammates and fans watching from the sidelines. While yesterday he looked a pale shadow of himself, Kohli resembled his old self on Friday. After the routine running session, the Indian team gathered for a brief huddle before getting down to action. They began with fielding practice, with players aiming at targets. Whenever Kohli hit the target, he made sure to celebrate with his teammates. With swift movements and a quick arm release, the 36-year-old once again demonstrated why he remains one of the fittest cricketers in the world. In between drills, Kohli shared light-hearted conversations with Shubman Gill and Axar Patel before heading to the nets. Yesterday, Kohli had focused on facing pace, getting used to the bounce of the pitches. The former India captain didn’t look entirely convincing, as he occasionally struggled against rising deliveries.Today, his focus shifted primarily to playing spin. Spin has been his nemesis in white-ball cricket over the past few years, and Kohli is leaving no stone unturned in preparing himself for all kinds of challenges in his comeback series.Along with Shreyas Iyer, he participated in a match-simulation-type exercise in the same nets, with Gill batting in the adjacent nets. Kohli had a brief conversation with the new ODI skipper, followed by more light-hearted chats with Axar and Yashasvi Jaiswal, before wrapping up the 40–45-minute practice session.
