PCB appoints Michael Smith as Pakistan batting coach

KARACHI: The Pakistan Cricket Board has appointed former South African cricketer Michael Smith as batting coach of the Pakistan men’s team on a two-year contract.

The PCB said on Tuesday that the 46-year-old will work with the national side in both red-ball and white-ball cricket. He is due to link up with the squad before Pakistan’s three-Test series against England, which begins on Aug 19.

Smith played 89 first-class matches, 72 List-A games and 16 T20s between 2003 and 2013. The PCB said the right-hander scored 7,029 runs across formats, with nine centuries and 40 half-centuries.

He holds a Level 4 coaching qualification and has previously worked with Islamabad United, Karachi Kings and Multan Sultans in the HBL Pakistan Super League.
